The Sous Chef provides assistance to the Head Chef by assisting with the daily planning and preparation of meals for our students. This Sous Chef will be responsible for ensuring best practices when preparing all the meals as well as making sure the meals are delivered to their designated sites. This is a part time position at our East Palo Alto Clubhouse, reporting to our Head Chef.
- Perform common cooking duties such as cutting fruit, vegetables, and meat.
- Collaborate with the head chef to plan and prepare nutritious and appealing meals for the day.
- Ensure that food safety and hygiene standards are strictly followed during food preparation and cooking.
- Supervise and assist kitchen staff in carrying out their duties, providing guidance and support as needed.
- Maintain inventory of kitchen supplies, ingredients, and equipment, and communicate any needs to the head chef for replenishment.
- Implement and enforce kitchen policies and procedures, including cleanliness standards and proper handling of kitchen tools.
- Collaborate with program organizers to coordinate meal schedules and accommodate special events or activities.
- Stay informed about current nutritional guidelines and trends, incorporating them into menu planning.
- Lift and move boxes that weigh 40 - 50 lbs.
- Perform other duties as needed.
- Experience working in a kitchen environment preparing meals for large groups.
- Ability to adapt recipes to accommodate various dietary needs, allergies, and preferences.
- Demonstrate strong leadership and supervisory skills to effectively manage kitchen staff, provide guidance, and maintain a positive working environment.
- Excellent communication skills to coordinate with the head chef, kitchen staff, and program organizers.
- Strong organizational skills to manage kitchen inventory, keep track of supplies, and ensure a well-functioning kitchen operation.
- Perform sanitation duties such as cleaning countertops and taking out the trash.
- ServSafe Certification a plus.

WORK SCHEDULE
- Employment Status: Part Time
- Pay Range: $25 - $30/hr depending on experience (DOE).
