Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Special Education from an accredited institution
- Current New Mexico Public Education Department license
Responsibilities:
- Conduct regular assessments to evaluate the learning progress of students with disabilities using state or district mandated tests.
- Assist in developing Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and objectives based on assessment results.
- Make recommendations for specialized education services as required.
- Collaborate with diagnosticians, general education teachers, students, and parents to determine appropriate test administration procedures.
- Serve as a liaison with external agencies for vocational assessment, if necessary.
- Assist in identifying and obtaining classroom equipment and materials necessary for students with disabilities.
- Develop and implement programs tailored to the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students with disabilities, while adhering to State Department of Education Standards.
- Support social integration and interaction among students with disabilities and their peers.
- Provide information to teachers, staff, and families regarding individual student needs, methodologies, and strategies.
- Supervise assigned classroom Educational Assistants.
- Generate and distribute progress reports according to school policy, and conduct parent conferences as necessary.
- Prepare paperwork for and attend IEP meetings.
- Serve as a bridge between the school district and the community by providing information about the district's offerings.
- Inform parents and students about recreational and summer programs, and assist with application procedures.
- Maintain a reference library and stay informed about current research, development, and technology in the field of special education
- Ensure confidentiality of privileged information at all times.
- Any other assigned duties
