Special Education Teacher
Job Description
The Special Education Teacher will provide special education services for disabled students across high school grades.The Special Education Teacher reports directly to the Principal of the School andthe Director of Special Education, andis expected to work closely with all district personnel to provide high quality instruction to our diverse student population. S/he will provide a safe, equitable, culturally responsive learning environment with high expectations for all students.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Create a welcoming, inclusive, culturally responsive classroom environment that is conducive to student’s learning and their ability to comfortably share their authentic selves.
- Work in collaboration with the Special Education team to organize, implement and oversee the delivery of special education services for all eligible students.
- Provide instruction to students in both, the Special Education Setting and the General Education setting.
- Must possess a strong background in design and implementation of elementary curriculum, differentiated instruction, and positive behavior management programs.
- Wilson Reading Program experience preferred.
- Experience with being part of the instructional support team, including classroom teachers, auxiliary special education support service providers, BCBA's, etc.
- Experience working with a team of Special Education and General Education professionals and paraprofessionals.
- Experience with IEP drafting and progress monitoring through the collection of data across the academic year.
- Experience with administering assessments including, but not limited to the WIATT.
- Demonstrated results-oriented instruction utilizing various reading, math, and written language programs.
- Demonstrated relationship building and communication skills with parents and other community liaisons.
- Abide by state statutes, school board policies and regulations.
- Attend meetings and perform duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
- Serve on committees as assigned.
- Remain current on instructional practices in education, (e.g. instructional technology)
- Development of daily schedule and materials prep (visual or tactile schedules/Manipulatives/hands on activities.
- Consultation with outside providers.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education
Qualifications & Skill Set:
BA required; Master’s Degree from an accredited institution in the field of Education preferred
Prefer: Teaching experience in Special Education/related practicum
Minimum: Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education licensure in Moderate Special Needs with corresponding middle school grade levels
Terms of Employment:As outlined in the Agreement Between The Woburn Teachers’ Association and The Woburn School Committee.
