SUMMARY:
Under general direction, is responsible for working under Director and/or Assistant Director in preschool and/or school age programs conducting informal observation, providing feedback, next steps, as well as meet with Special Education Teachers and Assistant Teachers to support lesson plans, differentiated activities, and reviewing quarterly reports and IEP development in accordance with the needs of the students and in accordance with the regulations and requirements of the applicable governmental and other regulatory agencies. Acts as Master Teacher to support teacher retainment, meeting with teaching staff on weekly basis as allowable. Supports to newly hired and seasoned staff as designated by Director or/and Assistant Director.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The duties and responsibilities of the Master Teacher will include, but are not limited to the following:
• Supports in planning and modeling activities adapted to needs of students in collaboration with Teachers and Teacher Assistants
• Supports in assessment and preparing IEPs with Teachers. Implements and evaluates short and long-term goals and objectives. Models IEP writing and creation of goals to support students' learning and overall quality of instruction and provides ongoing support
• Participates in activities pertaining to student transitioning to kindergarten, attends turning five meetings when requested
• Prepares teachers for students' Annual Review meetings with Committee on Preschool Special Education administrators (CPSE) and/or re-evaluation requests
• Provides support and training in educational assessment and evaluation on students annually in all educational domains using DAYC-2 (Developmental Assessment of Young Children 2) HELP (Hawaii Early Learning Profile), and informal teacher observations
• Aids teachers to adapt all individual and group lesson plans and materials, equipment and furniture arrangement and necessary modifications of environment utilizing Creative Curriculum and Al's Pals social emotional learning curriculum
• Supports teachers and teacher assistance with maintaining records of daily attendance and progress, quarterly reports, annual reports, and other data as requested. (See above)
• Ensures that services are rendered to students with utmost regard for their personal dignity, privacy, and confidentiality.
• Participates in Child study, teacher meetings, classroom meetings where necessary
• Serves and participates as a member at interdisciplinary team meetings, Annual Reviews, parent meetings, In-Services, etc. as needed.
• Orients, trains, supports work of Teachers and TA's
• Supports in obtaining approval of class equipment and materials when necessary for classroom use in collaboration with teaching staff.
• Travel to various programs sites daily based on need.
• Borough based position.
• 12-month school year position
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE - Minimal Qualifications and Requirements:
• Master's Degree in Special Education
• 7-10 years teaching experience with special education specifically early childhood
• New York State Certification in Special Education Early Childhood (Birth-2nd grade)
• New York State Certification in Early Childhood Education or N-6 (for Day Care and UPK Teachers)
• Meet all additional NY State Certification requirements
• Must be available 8am-3pm Monday-Friday, year round
• COVID-19 vaccine required
