The Import Export Team plays a crucial role in ensuring our merchandise and non-merchandise arrive safely and efficiently while adhering to all federal regulations of import/export.
Our goal is to deliver our merchandise to the Distribution Center as timely as possible in partnership with external and internal clients.
Our team is diverse in knowledge, skills and policies in order to support the ever-growing business.
This position is onsite based in our Dayton, NJ Office.
The Opportunity:
The Classification & Compliance Specialist has an integral role within our organization. You will contribute to our organization success by ensuring adherence to customs regulations, minimizing risks, and optimizing process and procedure pertaining to customs clearance.
You will be responsible for providing superior customer service to our internal and external clients while conveying strong regard for Hermès culture, policies and procedures.
As the Classification & Compliance Specialist, you will have a concentration in one division, however, cross training and assistance to other divisions is required.
About the Role:
- Product classification: Accurately classify products according to Harmonized System (HS).
- Maintain current database, classify new merchandise as well as non-merchandise.
- Audit and Assessment: Conduct regular audits and assessments of customs entries, and safety data sheets.
- Documentation: Prepare and submit clearance documentation as needed for our products.
- Example: TSCA (wood and chemicals), Lacey Act.
- Customs brokerage: Resolve any customs related issues that may arise during clearance process.
- Works closely with French counterparts in order to address all required product entry information including Lacey Act and other government agency requirements.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate with various departments, including import/export team, customer service and French counterparts.
- Record keeping: Maintain accurate and organized records of SDS sheets, and approved TSCA articles
- Participate and support all activities to include special projects as necessary.
- Work closely with Import/Export to ensure HOP's compliance with existing and future regulations of other U.S. government agencies as they relate to HOP merchandise.
- This position may require flexible schedule to meet the needs of the business, including extended holiday hours during designated periods throughout the year.

About You:
- Minimum of 2 or 3 years of experience, including hands-on internship, in similar role with importer or customs broker
- License customs broker preferred, not required
- Knowledge of customs regulations, HS, Cross Rulings, TSCA non-confidential inventory
- Excel knowledge (V-lookups, Pivot tables is a must)
- Clear and courteous communication
- Accountability, accuracy, and attention to detail
- Solid understanding of budgeting and ability to exercise appropriate judgement
- High level of attention to detail
- Proven excellence at meeting long and short-term deadlines
- Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office & PowerPoint
- Strong written, verbal and presentation skills
- Strong Analytical skills
