PURPOSE
The purpose of this engineering position is to support the development of new and innovative plastic sterile medical disposables for radiology and cardiovascular devices. This role participates in the engineering design and technical development of new products and support life cycle engineering of existing products. The individual will work as a member of a cross functional team that includes design, manufacturing, quality, regulatory, and program management in an FDA regulated environment.
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary responsibilities of this role, Sr Engineer SD (Sterile Disposables), are to:
- Lead and/or support the detailed engineering design, concept development, and technical implementation of new sterile disposable products utilized in radiology and cardiovascular medical procedures;
- Analyze product designs using CAE tools (FEA, Moldflow, CFD);
- Develop detailed 3D models and 2D drawings using CAD tools (CREO, SolidWorks, etc.);
- Establish detailed design requirements/design input within a cross-functional team environment;
- Support the creation and formal review of product drawings /output within a cross-functional team environment;
- Lead and conduct formal detailed design reviews;
- Conduct or direct testing in a Research & Development lab environment to verify new product designs;
- Research and develop new technologies associated with sterile medical disposable products;
- Provide knowledge of plastics material properties and manufacturing including material selection, injection molding process, extrusion process, thermoforming process, laser welding, ultrasonic welding, bonding, and high-volume assembly;
- Support verification and validation of production intent product;
- Create various design history file documentation throughout the development process including technical assessments, test protocols/reports, and various engineering documentation;
- Defines requirements for design elements and architecture of complex design at the sub module design element level;
- Understands and applies Dfx methodologies, using knowledge of product line, clinical applications, and customer requirements to support new products or processes;
- Plans and manages own work activities of significant technical scope with minimal direction;
- Develops, qualifies, and maintains supplier and partner relationships as directed;
- Communicates comfortably at all levels of the organization.
WHO YOU ARE
Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical and/or plastic engineering with 4 - 7 years of applicable work experience to include real-world understanding across breadth of discipline;
- High degree of familiarity with disposable product design, assemblies, and packaging;
- Prior experience about new product development in medical device industry;
- Working knowledge of material selection and plastics processing including injection molding, extrusion, and thermoforming;
- Competency in the use of lab equipment including Instron, melt flow tester, and data logging devices.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in mechanical and/or plastic engineering;
- In-depth knowledge of subtleties and pitfalls in one or more areas of expertise within a technical discipline.
