Position Summary
The Sr. Geotechnical Engineer will provide engineering and consulting services for a broad array of projects and clients. This individual will serve a key function in providing geotechnical engineering expertise through geotechnical analysis and design, and efforts that support management of projects, supervision of staff engineers, and interfacing with clients. The role includes both office and field work. The Sr. Geotechnical Engineer will collaborate with other professionals, such as architects, structural engineers, and construction teams, to ensure that geotechnical considerations are integrated into the overall project design and implementation.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the creation of a geotechnical engineering team.
- Ability to build and manage a team and manage P/L.
- Observe and monitor geotechnical investigations comprising test borings, cone penetrometer test soundings, test pits and installation of piezometers, wells, and geotechnical instrumentation.
- Obtain information from geotechnical instrumentation.
- Develop laboratory and field-testing programs.
- Compile and evaluate collected field and laboratory test data; prepare exploration plans information summaries and exploration logs.
- Perform geotechnical analysis addressing slope stability, settlement and consolidation, surcharge and ground improvement, shallow foundations (mats and footings), drilled piers; and pile design (compressive, lateral, and uplift capacities).
- Assist with the preparation of written geotechnical reports; develop written narratives.
- Observe and monitor earthwork and compaction, excavation support, footing subgrade preparation, drilled shaft and pile installation.
- Prepare geotechnical foundation construction reports.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering (strongly preferred)
- Registered Professional Engineer in New Jersey. Registration in additional states a plus.
- Doer/seller capabilities.
- Ideally will possess a minimum of 10 years of geotechnical engineering experience.
- Office experience with investigation coordination and assisting in geotechnical report writing.
- Desired field experience in driven and drilled pile construction, footings subgrade and backfill inspection, stormwater basin evaluation, excavation support system design and construction inspection.
- Experience in assisting project managers with fieldwork coordination and project management support a plus.
- Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, multitasking and judgment capabilities.
- Ability to effectively work independently and in a team environment.
- Some fieldwork is required.
- Possess reliable transportation to access job sites and a valid driver’s license in good standing.
- Position requires work Monday through Friday with occasional evenings and weekends.
- Ideally will have experience with computer programs including LPILE, SLOPE/W, SEEP/W, PLAXIS, AutoCAD, gINT and Microsoft Office
- Ideally will possess a certificate documenting OSHA 40 Hour HAZWOPER Training.
