Mercury Marine is seeking a Senior Supplier Development Engineer who will be responsible for developing, supporting, and maintaining non-metallic component suppliers through direct support of production operations, root cause/corrective action investigation, and active involvement with assigned suppliers to optimize suppliers' processes for efficiency, quality, and productivity. This role will serve as the subject matter expert who will collaborate and guide engineering development, ensure appropriate part zoning, develop inspection criteria/training with suppliers, and lead design for manufacturing activities.
Job responsibilities are highlighted below.
+ The senior SDE—(non-metallic—Coatings and Cosmetics) will be a subject matter expert knowledgeable in non-metallic parts.
+ SME for all Mercury suppliers -related surface cleaning and preparation processes (phosphatizing, E coat, anodizing, passivation, chemistries), along with all coating processes, including powder and liquid technologies.
+ Review all externally painted part zoning and contrast against the zone definitions to ensure all zoning is appropriate, realistic, and consistent across product families.
+ Understand the use and application of Data Paq, DFT gauge, spectrophotometer, gloss gauge, and PCI Orange Peel panels.
+ Suggest and drive improvement ideas to suppliers' surface preparation and coating operations.
+ Plan on training (if needed) at the part supplier to train or assist with skills or inspection criteria
+ Oversee the entire life cycle of assigned suppliers' projects, from conception to production.
+ Establish procedures, support new product launches, verify processes, troubleshoot, and assist suppliers' production.
+ Provide/suggest improvement ideas for suppliers' molding processes to reduce cycle time, eliminate waste and scraps, and maintain part quality.
+ Assist in the resolution of warranty issues related to non-metallic parts.
+ Act as the primary point of contact for Mercury with assigned Mercury suppliers and their sub-tier suppliers, such as mold makers and assembly component suppliers,
+ Lead cross-functional teams and facilitate the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) process to complete PPAP.
+ Serve as a technical resource for new business quoting activities, providing valuable insights and expertise into tooling, gages, etc.
+ Audit new suppliers, evaluate current suppliers, and support the New Product Development team by analyzing new plastic part tooling and technology capability.
+ Work closely with molding suppliers to ensure a reliable supply of parts.
Key qualifications are listed below.
Required:
+ Minimum of 5+ years of hands-on experience in injection molding, painting, cleaning, or inspecting part roles, ideally in a Supplier Quality, Quality Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering role.
+ Good understanding and strong knowledge of GD&T. Ability to read and interpret drawings and an in-depth knowledge of the application of quality standards, zoning, and specifications.
+ Strong problem-solving experience and tools.
+ Experience with cosmetic classifications and understanding of process parameters that affect cosmetic defects (Appearance/AAR, Class-A, B, or C surfaces)
+ Experience with failure analysis using advanced techniques.
+ Detail-oriented with a focus on delivering high-quality results.
+ Demonstrated leadership in driving successful project outcomes.
+ Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment.
+ Experience in supporting product and process development through the product lifecycle and associated assets.
Preferred:
+ Demonstrated proficiency in the use and application of tools such as process FMEA, control strategies, modeling and simulation software, statistical methods, problem-solving, materials science, and design of experiments (DOE)
+ Strong aptitude and understanding of plastics' capabilities and the methods needed to measure, test, and qualify components made of these materials.
+ Ability to provide solutions that reflect an understanding of business objectives and cost implications.
+ Direct experience or advanced training applicable to the processing of thermoplastics and/or extruded materials in a production environment
+ Experience with supply chain/Procurement, APQP/PPAP
Education Requirements:
+ BS in Engineering and related technical field.
Business Travel Expectations
Travel required can be up to 30%.
