SUMMARY
Exercises general responsibility for the development and implementation of diocesan policies and school policies. Directs and coordinates educational, administrative, and counseling activities of elementary school by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. * Indicates the non-essential duties and responsibilities. Nothing in this job description restricts St. Labre's right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time.
Provides an atmosphere in the school in which the faith community can develop.
Develops and participates in on-going programs to insure religious and professional growth of the faculty, staff and students.
Develops and coordinates educational programs through meetings with staff and Director of Schools, review of teachers' activities, and issuance of directives.
Confers with teachers, students, and parents concerning educational and behavioral problems in school.
Recruits and makes recommendations for hiring/assigning school staff and provides them with effective leadership and evaluation of their performance.
Plans and directs building maintenance. Insures that problems concerning the maintenance of the building, that might affect the health, safety, and well-being of the students, and staff, are brought to the attention of the Director of Schools.
Prepares the agenda for board meetings.
Provides monthly reports to the local school board
Evaluates certified staff. New teachers are evaluated once the first semester, and once the second semester. Returning teachers are evaluated once each school year.
Supervises teachers and instructional aides.
Coordinates evaluation of non-certified personnel.
Attends professional meetings and diocesan meetings.
Supervises and evaluates the following programs: home-school, counseling, drug/alcohol, culture and athletic activities.
Approves leave requests.
Strives to develop and maintain positive staff morale and loyalty to the school.
Promotes respect for school property, climate of mutual confidence, student success and a positive school atmosphere conducive to growth.
Helps define the major responsibilities and duties of all school staff.
Facilitates school improvement through a planned process of short and long-term goal setting for the school staff, community groups and the school board.
Helps interpret federal, state, county, and diocesan policies and regulations in relation to school policies and regulations.
Initially approves the distribution of all school publications, written communication from school staff and students prior to mailing.
Works cooperatively with school support services in the areas of transportation, food services, accounting, and maintenance.
Initiates and guides the development of school policies and the development of such administrative regulations as necessary to implement such policies.
Approves purchase order requests charged to respective instructional budget.
Works with the Director of Schools to prepare all budgets.
Guards school buildings, grounds, and property against theft, vandalism, trespassing, and all illicit acts during shift and during sports events and other activities.
Examines doors, windows, and gates to assure they are secure.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervises 20 to 35 employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Master's degree (M. A.) in education or equivalent; and three to five years related experience and/or training required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desire to work with elementary school-aged children; specialized training for dealing with that age group is a definite asset.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
State of Montana Class III Administrative Certificate.
Valid Montana drivers license.
