Position Summary:
The Staff Accountant will be responsible for overseeing the accounts payable (AP) clerk, vendor management, overseeing various aspects of cash management and banking operations, and leading special projects within these areas. This role is critical in ensuring accurate financial reporting, effective cash management, compliance with state and local taxing agencies, and adherence to company policies and accounting standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accounts Payable Oversight:
- Supervise and support the AP clerk in daily operations.
- Review AP transactions, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Resolve AP issues and discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Vendor Management:
- Maintain positive relationships with vendors.
- Maintain up to date information of all vendors.
- Ensure timely and accurate payments to vendors.
- Cash and Banking Operations:
- Assist daily cash flow and banking activities.
- Reconcile bank and credit card statements.
- Prepare and maintain cash flow forecasts.
- Oversee corporate credit card policy and expenses.
- Compliance and Reporting:
- Ensure compliance with state and local taxing agencies, including timely filing of returns and payment of taxes.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies, and relevant regulations.
- Support internal and external audits as needed.
- Special Projects:
- Lead and participate in special projects related to AP, cash management, banking, and compliance.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on various initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- Experience:
- General knowledge of accounting principles. Experience in accounts payable, cash management, compliance with state and local taxing agencies, or related areas is a plus.
- Skills and Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
