Sidwell Friends, a coeducational Quaker day school, seeks part-time Store Associates for the School Café located on its Washington, DC campus. The Fox Den Cafe and store is a bustling center of community life at Sidwell Friends. Students, parents, faculty, staff, and alums gather every day of the school week to enjoy an array of hot and cold beverages, including specialty lattes and cappuccinos, and to take a break or enjoy downtime with friends. The Fox Den offers a wide selection of school spirit wear and merchandise.
Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Auxiliary Programs, the Fox Den Store Associate is responsible for:
- Assisting customers, processing sales, receiving and stocking merchandise, and performing daily store opening and/or closing procedures.
- Responsible for assisting with the daily operations of the store, including but not limited to opening and/or closing the store daily, operating a cash register accurately and effectively, creating and maintaining accurate reports, records, and files, and maintaining a clean and orderly front of the store and stockroom.
- Working as part of a team to provide excellent customer service for face-to-face and online customers, including cashier duties, cafe and retail floor support, and phone assistance.
- Creating a warm, safe, and welcoming environment for all customers.
- Assisting with ordering, receiving, merchandising, and stocking merchandise; communicating discrepancies to Store Manager; organizing displays to maximize space utilization and eye appeal.
- Protecting the store assets.
- Assisting with monthly, quarterly, and annual store inventory counts.
- Performing daily deposit.
- Assisting with ordering cafe products and merchandise; offering ideas for expanding and improving services, events, and product offerings to customers.
- Assisting with online order processing and fulfillment.
- Being present and engaging during shifts, especially rush hours, special sales days, pop-ups, and store events.
- Being able and willing to learn how to craft specialty coffee drinks.
- Assisting with basic food preparation, following essential food safety guidelines.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Customer service focused with a calm and pleasant demeanor.
- Strong attention to detail and demonstrated organizational skills.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize while working independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all members of the school community.
- Experience with managing sales transactions in a retail and/or food service environment is preferred.
- Experience working with diverse populations; specific experience working with middle and high school students is preferred.
- Knowledge of general food service and/or retail procedures.
- Understanding computer system operations, specifically Outlook, Google, and Microsoft Office applications.
Qualifications
- 18 years or older with prior experience working with customers or students in a retail or food service environment.
- Demonstrate effective communication skills, flexibility, patience, a sense of humor, and enthusiasm for working with students and customers.
- Ability to work 20 hours per week (part-time, not benefits eligible position). The Fox Den is open 7:30 am – 5:00 pm. Additional coverage opportunities may arise as operationally needed.
- Ability to lift boxes/materials of 30 pounds
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to walk around store, campus, and buildings.
- Ability to bend frequently, squat, and reach above shoulder height occasionally.
Compensation
- Hourly Rate $18.00-$22.00. Hourly rate commensurate with experience and qualifications.
