RS&H is seeking a Structural Bridge Engineer to join our Transportation Practice in our St. Charles, IL office or Springfield, IL office!
Job Summary:
This position performs all conventional aspects of structural engineering design and plan development related to transportation projects including structures such as bridges, culverts and retaining walls. Projects may include the planning and conducting of work which requires advanced design and analysis methodologies. This role independently performs a variety of assignments related to structural engineering and bridge design requiring skills in all conventional aspects of engineering design and analysis for projects of moderate size and complexity. This position requires independent judgment in evaluation, selection, and adaptation/modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria, and must be able to independently solve problems and make decisions, receiving technical guidance on unusual or complex issues and supervisory approval on proposed project plans.
Essential Functions:
- Functions as design and/or document originator on all phases of transportation projects including structures such as bridges, culverts and retaining walls.
- Prepares project calculations, drawings, specifications, compiles and analyzes relevant data, and prepares complete project documents, analysis, and reports.
- Participates in bridge inspections, condition assessment, and development of bridge condition reports.
- Performs detailed checking of drawings and design calculations for structure components.
- Maintains professional registration and licensure.
- May provide technical guidance and assign tasks to junior and support staff for project duration.
- Performs all other duties as assigned and within scope of practice.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (Master’s preferred) from an ABET accredited program, or equivalent experience, with an emphasis on structural engineering design.
- 4 to 10 years of progressive structural engineering design experience in steel and concrete bridges.
- IL Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain license.
- IL Structural Engineer (SE) license or ability to obtain license (preferred).
- IDOT and Illinois Tollway experience preferred.
- Proficient in industry standard software including: Microstation/OpenBridge/OpenRoads, MathCad, LEAP Bridge, MDX, LPILE, and LARSA.
- Must possess strong oral and written communications skills.
- Must have the ability to effectively interact with and build strong relationships with internal multi-disciplinary project teams.
