POSITION SUMMARY:
- The Substitute Teacher is responsible for instructing and leading student learning in the absence
of the regular teacher and in accordance with the goals, directives and curriculum of Albany County
School District #1.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Substitute Teacher:
1. Delivers classroom instruction to students in the absence of the regular teacher. *
2. Maintains the confidentiality of student and school personnel information in accordance
with District policy and law. *
3. Maintains a professional appearance as an example to students. *
4. Implements lesson plans in the prescribed area(s) using various techniques and
instructional strategies while ensuring the integrity of academic time and manner. *
5. Motivates students to learn and participate in instruction and organizes students for effective
instruction. *
6. Maintains a positive learning environment and ensures classroom procedures that foster
a safe and respectful climate for all students and staff. *
7. Provides adequate supervision to ensure the health, welfare, and safety of all students. *
8. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students and secure District
facilities. *
9. Reports to the main office upon arrival at school and secures substitute identification and
credentials and requests clarification of school rules and procedures from the front office
personnel, if necessary. *
10. Reports all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to the appropriate
authority immediately or as soon as is reasonably possible. *
11. Consults with persons in appropriate positions including peer teachers to seek information or
clarification regarding attendance procedures, lesson objectives, daily schedule, materials and
equipment location, usage, and daily duties. *
12. Attends to all non-teaching duties as assigned (i.e., lunch duty, recess duty, study hall duty,
etc.). *
13. Provides equity in the classroom by providing equal opportunity for students regardless of
race, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, background, and abilities. *
14. Manages student behavior in the classroom. *
15. Responds appropriately to student behavior in the total school environment by enforcing
school rules in hallways, on school grounds, in other school areas away from the classroom, and
on school-sponsored trips. *
16. Participates in professional growth (such as professional organizations, coursework,
workshops, and conferences) and other professional activities (such as school and/or District
committees, taskforces, in-depth studies, or councils). *
17. Follows the policies and procedures of the school and the District. *
18. Demonstrates a sense of professional responsibility, such as demonstrating ethical
behavior; providing accurate data and reports when needed; meeting deadlines; maintaining
confidentiality; caring for the equipment and materials; and dressing appropriately and
presenting a good role model. *
19. Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Ability to use effective communication skills; knowledge of education law and regulations; ability
to use time effectively; good organizational skills; ability to maintain a positive relationship with
other staff by collaborating and working cooperatively with them (including supervisors);
knowledge of physiological, psychological, emotional, and educational behavioral development of
children and/or adolescents; ability to lead meetings; and ability to help groups achieve consensus.
ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:
Certification: Substitute Certification or Standard Teaching Certification
from Wyoming Professional Teaching Standards Board.
Work Experience: Experience working with students in a school environment
is a plus.
