Supervising Pharmacist (Open and Promotional) - County of San Mateo

The County of San Mateo San Mateo Medical Center (SMMC) is seeking a well-qualified individual for the position of Supervising Pharmacist. The Supervising Pharmacist, under the direction of the Clinical Services Manager – Pharmacy, will oversee staff, day-to-day operations, and regulatory concerns in the Outpatient and Long-Term Care Pharmacies of SMMC. The successful hire will be responsible for supervising, training, scheduling, and evaluating assigned staff according to SMMC and County policies. They will help manage Outpatient and Long-Term Care Pharmacy inventory, medication preparation and distribution, and help develop and maintain efficient pharmacy workflows. They will ensure regulatory compliance with the Joint Commission, Board of Pharmacy, and California Department of Public Health standards. They will also serve as pharmacist-in-charge (PIC) for Long Term Care Pharmacy. They will need to work with various hospital departments and professionals to solve problems and ensure quality patient care. They will also need to complete any other reports and tasks to meet department needs. The current vacancy is a full-time, regular position.

 

The Supervising Pharmacist will:

• Coordinate training for staff who are new to the department or in new work procedures.
• Work with Inpatient Supervisor write schedules for pharmacy staff, approve vacations, and find coverage when needed.
• Perform annual performance evaluations for assigned staff.
• Develop and implement new pharmacy programs and/or administrative goals.
• Work with the Pharmacy Buyer and Clinical Coordinator to solve drug supply issues and ensure adequate stock.
• Perform Quarterly CII-CV Inventory Reconciliations.
• Collect and analyze information, draw sound conclusions, and prepare effective recommendations; prepare a variety of special and periodic reports.
• Provide coverage for Clinical Services Manager – Pharmacy when absent.
• Help maintain 340B compliance.
• Perform unit inspection at correctional health facilities. 

The ideal candidate will have:

• At least two years of supervisorial or management experience as a pharmacist;
• Experience working in a hospital/acute care setting; 
• Knowledge of the 340B drug pricing program;
• Knowledge of QS/1 and Epic Pharmacy Software;
• Advanced skills in computer systems and applications, such as Microsoft Windows and the Microsoft Office suite, specifically Microsoft Excel.
