Supervisor, Manufacturing Engineering
Role Summary/Purpose
The Manufacturing Engineering Supervisor will be responsible for the development and implementation of manufacturing processes to maintain proper product functionality as well as cost efficiency; ensures the engineering technicians team and other operations departments work together cohesively; is responsible for the development of equipment and documentation to aid in the manufacturing process; leads and directs the work of assigned manufacturing technicians
In this role, you will use your technical engineering abilities to meet day-to-day short-term objectives, and resolve issues through immediate production supporting action or longer-term planning.
Essential Responsibilities
- Supervise or direct the work of manufacturing technicians as assigned to the group.
- Integrate the manufacturing engineering technicians team into all areas of production supporting continuous improvement, quality, and New Product Introduction (NPI) projects.
- Participate as a team lead in expense and capital improvements for Operation’s process, design, and facility solutions to effectively drive business optimization and transformation
- Provide guidance, communication, and consistency to the engineering group on procedures and best practices.
- Manage employees in an effective manner by communicating goals and expectations, and holding them accountable for results.
- Perform current state vs desired state gap assessment by conducting system and material flow studies and cross-functional multi-stakeholder discussions
- Participate in LEAN initiative, and engage Six Sigma tools for process improvements to streamline processes using lean methodologies, measuring process improvement success
- Driving process improvements from conception through implementation using factory systems, 6 Sigma and Lean techniques to optimize product cost/quality/productivity/delivery
- Develop manufacturing processes for NPI, documenting process changes, while providing design feedback leading to robust processes with low cost and high quality
- Manage multiple projects by providing scheduling, resource management, budget control and EHS compliance
- Bring new ideas and positive support to the current process
- Lead and effectively interface with manufacturing, sales, marketing, and other support teams to complete projects to meet EHS, production, quality, cost savings, and new product development goals within schedule and budget
- Interface with vendors and internal contacts in an effective manner to ensure that the technical and EHS perspective is properly conveyed
- Participate in EHS related actions to improve safety across the entire campus
- Respond to immediate requests for production support to resolve issues
- Initiate and/or provide technical assistance for production and maintenance issues, both daily and long term
- Utilize process information systems to extract/analyze data
- Develop and document Process specifications and Qualification procedures
- Provide technical training for technicians and entry-level engineers
- Manage departmental budgets and reduce costs year over year.
- Perform and lead Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) of new and existing products.
- Lead deployment and implementation of NPD into manufacturing processes.
- Identify and execute continuous improvement ideas to manufacturing processes through Kaizen events and Value stream maps (VSM)
- Lead and effectively drive problem-solving events and activities such as 8Ds and A3s.
- Coordinate the creation and updating of Standards works and operation procedures.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Preferably a master’s degree in industrial engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related field and 3 years of experience in a manufacturing assembly line environment. Mandatory bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related field and 5 years of progressive post- baccalaureate experience in a manufacturing assembly line environment.
- Of the required experience, must have:
- • 3 years of experience providing manufacturing engineering process improvement solutions using problem-solving tools;
• 3 years of experience with the use of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) to create, update, and modify manufacturing and facilities lay-outs;
• 3 years of experience with the application of Lean and Six Sigma tools;
• 3 years of experience with Project management related to the financial feasibility of manufacturing projects;
• 3 years of experience providing daily production support related to manufacturing; and
• 3 years of experience writing technical reports on manufacturing issues and solutions. - 3+ years of experience as a leader of manufacturing technicians &/or manufacturing engineers
- Strong project management skills required
- Prior experience leading process improvement initiatives
- Demonstrated ability to work both individually and in a collaborative team environment
- Possess strong organizational, interpersonal, communication, problem solving and decision-making skills, as well as initiative and ability to delegate decision making and other responsibilities. Ability to handle multiple time-sensitive projects and issues.
- Possess the ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel, both hourly and management.
- Operations knowledge required (any major business focus areas)
- Strong communication and presentation (Exec level) skill-set
