Job Description
The position of Surgical Technician is to assist the surgical team during operative procedures. The individual contributes to establishing and maintaining a safe environment for patients under direction of a registered nurse. The Scrub Technician provides patient care and assistance with patient relocation and surgery room cleanliness and organization. Candidates possess knowledge in the theory and application of sterile tools as well as familiarities of human anatomy and surgical procedures.
Job Responsibilities:
- Prepares surgical suite, supplies and equipment to ensure environmental safety and infection control for personnel and patients.
- Selects and prepares necessary supplies and equipment for each surgical procedure.
- Verifies exposure to a sterilization process and integrity of sterile packaging. Open supplies aseptically.
- Establish and maintain sterile field.
- Checks all equipment and supplies for working order.
- Identifies principles and demonstrates techniques of disinfection, sterilization and environmental control measures.
- Adheres to facility policies and procedures.
- Meets the needs of each patient and surgeon.
- Identified breaks in aseptic technique and corrects and/or reports it to the proper authority.
- Prepares and aware of specific uses of all needed equipment and supplies.
- Continually maintains a neat and orderly sterile field as dictated by the sequence of procedures.
- Passes instruments to surgeon; adheres to the needs of surgeons.
- Appropriately prepares all specimens for laboratory analysis.
- Participates in counting procedures per established policy.
- Participate in Quality Assurance Performance Improvement Committee (QAPI).
- Assists registered nurse with patient preparation and transfer to PACU.
- Travels to facilities on need be basis.
- Performs additional duties assigned by management.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Demonstrates effective usage of time
- Ability to correlate clinical data with patient’s medical condition
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work within a team and with minimum supervision
Requirements:
- Graduated from an accredited surgical technologist training program with subsequent certification in surgical technology.
