The primary focus of this position is providing assistance to the RN circulator and physicians in the Family Birthing Center Operating Room. Responsibilities include, preparing and organizing sterile supplies and instruments for the surgical procedures, developing and maintaining a sterile surgical field as a member of the surgical team.

Overview of Responsibilities:
1. Provide regular and dependable attendance.
2. Instrumental in achieving targeted benchmarks for on time starts and room turnovers.
3. Pre op duties include but are not limited to:
a. Performs shave preps as necessary
b. Performs skin bath in preoperative holding area
c. Performs antibacterial skin preparation
d. Assists in selecting of supplies and equipment for procedure.
e. Assists with completion of patient charges
f. Assist in preparation of OR suite and OR table
g. Checks supplies and equipment needed for the surgical procedure
h. Opens sterile packages using sterile technique
i. Assists as needed with intravenous fluid set ups, anesthesia equipment, monitors and supplies for procedures.
4. Intra op duties:
a. Assists in placing and positioning of the patient on the OR table.
b. Holds extremities during the operative skin preparation if necessary using aseptic or sterile technique as indicated
c. Performs the operative skin scrub preparation
d. Assists with urinary catheterization of patients during surgical procedure upon order of physician
e. Prepares and operates the electro surgery units, laparoscopic equipment/instrumentation if needed and other equipment/instrumentation used during the operative case.
f. Assists the surgeon with application of wound dressings.
5. Performs scrub activities utilizing accepted aseptic principles and following established hospital and surgical services department policies and procedures.
6. Follows strict sterile technique when establishing the sterile field and maintains its sterility throughout the procedure.
7. Performs accurate needle, sponge, sharp, small supplies and instruments counts according to accepted policy/procedure.
8. Holds, manipulates and retracts tissue with instruments to assist surgeon during procedure, including cutting of suture; anticipating needs of surgeon specific to procedure.
9. Assists other team members upon completion of the procedure to transfer the patient onto the surgical cart or bed for transportation to P.A.C.U. or the specialized nursing units.
10. Cleans and prepares instruments for processing and transport them to the decontamination area.
11. Assists with post procedure cleaning of the operative and preparation of room subsequent patients.
12. Responsible for stocking supplies in operative suite, labor rooms, treatment room and postpartum rooms.
13. Additional responsibilities as delegated by RN including patient vital signs, ADLs, etc.

Education/Experience:Education Required: Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology training program or equivalent experience.
Education Preferred: Certified Surgical Tech (CST) preferred.
Experience Required:
Experience Preferred: 2 years of experience as a Surgical Tech in OB preferred.
Licensure:
Certifications: Basic Life Support required
Schedule Details:Night Shift. 36 Hours Weekly. 6:00pm-6:00am.What We Offer:
