Surgical Technologist
Normal duty hours for the positions shall be 0635- 1505, 1445- 2315 Monday thru Friday.
Degree/Education:
Education: Graduate from a Surgical Technology program accredited by CAAHEP or ABHES, or completion of a formal training program provided by any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces for surgical technicians, technologists, or operating room technicians.
Certification:
Certification: Certified as a Surgical Technologist (CST) from NBSTSA, or certified as a Tech-in-Surgery (TS-C) from NCCT, or possess a Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) certification as a surgical technician and/or operating room technician.
Experience:
Experience: One year of experience as a Surgical Technician or Operating Room Technician after graduation.
Specialty Requirements:
All personnel performing under this contract action shall remain employees of the Contractor, supervised by the Chief of the Department or their Government representative. Neither military (active or reserve) nor Government civilian personnel shall be employed to perform services under this contract action. The MTF Commander reserves the right to refuse the services of contract staff based on the lack of certification, credentials, licensure, or background checks.
Job Responsibilities:
Perform sterile techniques, set up surgical trays, prepare and drape patients for surgery, and assist with post-operative dressings.
Clean and pack surgical packs for sterilization after each procedure; restock surgical supplies.
Maintain clean and safe environment in clinical spaces, operating rooms, and medical equipment.
Report events to registered nurse or officer in charge; document notifications.
Serve as a member of surgical team in operating room, supporting procedures from routine to complex or trauma cases.
Assist in preparing patients and operating room for surgery according to preoperative nursing care plans.
Transport patients safely to and from operating room, ensuring all preoperative requirements are met.
Set up specialized equipment for surgeries; select, assemble, and organize supplies and instruments.
Anticipate surgeon and anesthesiologist needs; respond to surgical emergencies.
Maintain aseptic procedures during surgical preparation and assist in intraoperative care.
Assist with positioning and draping patients; hand instruments to surgeon as needed.
Monitor patient during surgery for complications; alert surgeon to any issues.
Perform counts of surgical instruments and supplies; assist with dressings and cleanup post-surgery.
Clean operating room and equipment after surgery; dispose of materials and replenish supplies.
Perform first echelon maintenance on OR equipment; assist in maintaining adequate surgical service supplies.
Staffing and Scheduling:
Work Schedule: Flexible as per operational needs; specific hours and shifts to be determined by Government representative.
Breaks: Standard breaks provided during shifts.
Scheduling: Schedule provided in advance; flexibility required for occasional adjustments.
