About the Job
In this role, you will:
· Planning, developing, and supervising the development of new and/or improved electromechanical products
· Leading interdisciplinary teams through the product development process
· Ensuring teams meet their timeline and product requirements
· Managing a portfolio of key projects, ensuring timely completion through removal of roadblocks, identification of critical paths, and proper resourcing of projects
· Communicating with stakeholders on a weekly basis
· Identifying and documenting engineering improvements / modifications to existing products
· Ensuring seamless interaction between electrical circuits, sensors, actuators, and mechanical components
· Solving interdisciplinary challenges related to power distribution, control systems, and physical mechanics
· Respond to customer inquiries in a timely and professional manner
· Prepare, revise, approve and distribute engineering documentation
· Perform design analysis, design review and design verification on new and existing products
· Setup bill of materials for products to meet Downing design standards
· Write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals
· Perform other duties as assigned to support a culture of teamwork
Required and Preferred Experience:
· Engineering 3D design capability including proficiency in CAD design. Solidworks experience, including Solidworks Electrical Professional, preferred but not required
· Knowledge of electrical circuits including documenting electrical schematics is required
· Knowledge of control systems required
· Knowledge of NI LabVIEW preferred
· Mechanical engineering knowledge required
· Define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
· Interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in a mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
· Microsoft Office Suite
· Effectively present information and respond to inquiries from customers
· Exhibit a positive operating / "can do" attitude
· Thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment
· Ability to work in both an office environment and operational environment (i.e. building and operating developed products). This is a hands-on role, actively designing and building new products
· 3-5 years’ experience working as an engineer
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
· Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk or hear, use hands to manipulate with fingers, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms
· Occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and reach with hands and arms. work in wet, humid conditions, cold or hot (non-weather), outdoor weather conditions, perform duties near vibrations, moving mechanical parts and risk of electrical shock
· Lift, push or pull shop equipment and tools up to 50 lbs.
· See at a close distance (clear vision at 20 inches or less) and at a long distance (20 feet or more), identify and distinguish colors
· Observe an area that can be seen up and down or left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point and judge distances and spatial relationships, three-dimensional vision, and the ability to adjust focus (adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus)
· Moderate to very loud noises
Education:
· Bachelor’s Degree in Systems Engineering, ElectroMechancial Engineering or Mechatronics Engineering is required, or similar engineering degree combined with prior experience
· Master’s Degree is preferred but not required
