Reporting to the Director of Systems Engineering, the Systems Engineering Manager will manage a dynamic team of systems engineers responsible for the Design, Analysis, Integration, Verification, Validation, and Operations support of spacecrafts within Terran Orbital’s Portfolio
The Systems Engineering Manager has responsibility for a coherent set spacecrafts products and systems engineering functions that support programs and projects
The Systems Engineering Manager applies their technical and leadership skills in organizing, leading, and guiding execution of sound systems engineering principals within their responsible programs set
The Systems Engineering Manager shares their technical expertise and leadership in mentoring, training, and leading technical system designs and architectures
The Systems Engineering Manager will manage team efficacy and execution to meet the business needs. Key Duties and ResponsibilitiesLead, directs, reviews, and coaches the work of engineering professional direct reports to accomplish program, project, and departmental responsibilitiesResponsible for team members support, resource planning and forecasting, skillset identification, engineering tool implementation, and product/process standardization for program level support in systems architecture, design, integration, launch, and operationsLeads and establishes goals, objectives, and training for the team with direct impact on short- and long-term operations resultsEnsuring knowledge capture and knowledge transfer by working with and mentoring engineering membersExecutes strategies and roadmaps items for systems architecture and program level developmentsPropose and execute process improvements to maximize efficiency, quality, and technical fidelity of engineering products to support interoperability and flexible and state-of-the-art architecturesDrive team to achieve annual goals and objectives and manage complex project and program initiatives of strategic importance to the organizationMaintain outstanding communication with higher management and with the employees in the departmentProvide surge support in an individual contributor capacity as needed to ensure your teams responsibilities are metThe teams the Systems Engineering Manager will lead are responsible for one or more items including:Designing and developing optimal space vehicle architectures and detailed mission solutions to complex space domain challenges for various remote sensing, RF, and optical applicationsMission Concept of Operations refinement, mapping, and applicationRequirements generation, derivation, decomposition, and mappingSystem Definition Baseline configuration management and controlLogical and Physical Architecture definitions and interface managementSystem-level design activities to include State-Machines, Orbital dynamics, and Communication architecturesRequirementsBachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering or the sciences7+ years of experience as a technical contributor or leader for space-domain missions3+ years of experience leading/managing/tracking projects proposals, processes, and employees working within a systems architecture engineering disciplineDemonstrated experience and success with technical leadership of launched or operational space domain systemsDemonstrated ability to make complex critical decisions promptlyExperience leading complex initiatives, with a proven track record of collaboration and coordination across internal and external stakeholder organizationDemonstrate a proven track record of applying successful expertise to sophisticated systems challengesExperience with risk, issue, and opportunity managementUnderstanding of how people, processes, tools, systems, and leadership concepts of operations operate to achieve goalsProven ability to deliver effective communication verbally, written, and through well-crafted presentations across all levels of an organization, including executive leadershipImpeccable attention to detail and a sense of urgencyAbility to self-govern with minimal supervision, establish workload priorities, and utilize efficient time management practices to achieve programmatic or strategic initiatives Additional DifferentiatorsExperience and success with space-based reliability, availability, maintainability, and safetyFamiliarity with satellite system budgets, including mass, power, delta-V, link, and data budgetsExperience and success with encrypted communications architectures and devices and data productsDemonstrated experience and success with Optical or RF systems Benefits100% Company-paid comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage for you and your dependents401(k) MatchUnlimited PTOCross-training and professional development opportunitiesSalary Range $160,000 - $220,000Your actual level and base salary will be determined case-by-case and may vary based on the job-related qualification, knowledge, skills, education, and experience
