An Overview
The Department of Transportation and Environmental Services (T&ES) is seeking a T&ES Inspector I for Traffic Operations, The T&ES Inspector I inspects construction projects within the city to ensure compliance with approved plans, budget, projected completion time, specifications and related codes and regulations. As a T&ES Inspector I, you will work in the coordination and inspection of all contracted signal construction work and will prepare cost estimates, planning intersection layouts, sketching signal plans, and reviewing invoices from the city contractor. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Traffic Operations Superintendent. Work will be performed under adverse weather and traffic conditions. This position is considered essential during emergency operations.

Minimum & Additional Requirements
High School diploma or GED; knowledge in construction of concrete, asphalt, sidewalks, curb and gutter, storm drains; at least three years of construction field inspector experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Recognition of "Miss Utility" color-coded markings. Employees in this class must have a valid driver's license issued by their state of residence.
Preferred Qualifications
To be considered as an ideal candidate, one should also possess a two-year college degree; with an emphasis in engineering, science, computer science, or closely related field, and five years of experience in the maintenance and repair of traffic control equipment.

The Opportunity
- Coordinates and inspects all contracted traffic signal construction work to ensure compliance with specifications;
- Ensures that all safety precaution and requirements for the contractor traffic crews and public are enforced;
- Conducts field surveys and maintains accurate files and plans on equipment and system operations at all locations.;
- Prepares traffic signal construction project cost estimates and attend preconstruction meeting;
- Assists in the planning and layout of intersections.;
- Determines locations of City-owned traffic control equipment for utility companies, contractors, and City crews preparing to excavate;
- Prepares estimate of annual costs for traffic signal construction materials;
- Order traffic signal construction materials.
- Maintains equipment and supply inventory, requisition and account records and prepares reports;
- Reviews tickets for traffic utility locating and able to perform locating duties in the field;
- Coordinates work with contractors and other City departments to ensure that installation and repair schedules are met;
- Project management role, Assist and advise on projects with contractors and developers;
- Ability to work in Munis, familiarity with purchasing of materials and budgeting;
- Performs related work as required.
