CLINICAL ASSISTANT
Performs various patient care and clerical activities necessary to ensure a smooth flow of clinic operations. Assists with a wide variety of patient procedures/tests. Assists patients in and out of examination rooms, assists licensed health care personnel with physical examinations, takes and records patientsrsquo; vital signs, and maintains treatment rooms. Performs various clerical/administrative functions such as data entry, chart creation, and filing, scheduling appointments, and answering patient calls
Key Duties and Primary Responsibilities:
- Assist in the performance of direct and indirect patient care
- Accurately takes and records patient's vital signs and other appropriate patient observations, per protocol
- Reports critical values to RN/MD immediately
- Performs specific procedures per physician instructions and according to policy
- Administers certain PO, subcutaneous, and IM injections at physician instructions and per protocol
- Runs point-of-care tests, including but not limited to: finger stick blood sugars, rapid strep throat cultures, urine dipstick analysis, rapid flu tests, and urine pregnancy tests
- Collect and process/prepare specimens for sending to COA lab for testing
- Ensures screening exams and questionnaires are completed, per protocol Assist as needed in patient care, in reviewing charts prior to patient visits, discharging patients, and gathering needed information for visits (vaccine records, outside records, etc.)
- Assist in gathering and appropriately processing forms following patient visits (copying forms, gathering surveys, etc.)
- Instructions are given to the patient/family accurately and thoroughly per protocol or as directed by RN/MD Proper channels of communication are adhered to in a courteous and cooperative manner
- Patients' rights and confidentiality are consistently protected
- Phone calls are handled in a timely manner according to established policy
- Maintains current CPR certification
- Completes all mandatory education requirements of Clinic in advance of due dates and presents completed transcripts to the nursing supervisor
- Keeps abreast of current issues and changes in technology
- Maintain knowledge of current vaccinations being given, including dosage, precautions, and consent
- Assist with the completion of forms for patients and physicians
- Ensure that copies of forms are processed for scanning into the electronic medical records system, as needed
- Ensure accurate labeling and dating of medications when multi-use vials are opened
- Ensure proper disposal of single-use vials after use. Ensure accurate recording of patient's medication list in electronic medical record systems
- Complete outpatient medication review, as needed, per protocol
- Perform other duties as assigned
Hourly Wage:%2415.00 - %2421.15
High School diploma or GED and three (3) years of related experience required. If located in certain departments, must be currently licensed or licensed by endorsement as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required.
