About the Job
Concordia University Chicago (CUC) seeks applicants for the part-time (20 hours per week), non-exempt position of Teacher Assistant in the Early Childhood Education Center. The Teacher Assistant is responsible for caring for children in the Early Childhood Center together with a lead teacher. This position reports to the Director of the Center and is located in River Forest, IL.
Responsibilities/Duties:
- Assist classroom teacher to implement classroom SCALE curriculum
- Provide for the development of each child spiritually, socially, intellectually, physically, and emotionally
- Collaborate with head teacher to support curriculum by implementing plans outlined by head teacher when head teacher has finished her shift
- Prepare and be involved in the physical preparations and clean-up of classroom activities as outlined in each classroom's list of duties
- Be responsible for the health and safety of the children
- Monitor small groups and/or free choice play time
- Help monitor, supervise work and attendance of lab students, observation/methods students and student teachers
- Follow standards set by DCFS (Department of Child and Family Services), NLSA (National Lutheran School Association), NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children), and employee guidelines as listed in the CUC staff handbook
- Promote Center's mission/vision statement
- Attendance for in service and staff meetings are expected, participation in specific center committees and community activities are voluntary
- Participate in 15 hours of professional training per year. These meeting may be during the day, weekends, or evenings
- Maintain appropriate contact with and support of parents and families
- Serve as a center wide substitute

- Ability to organize tasks
- Ability to work with and cooperate with supervisory staff at all levels
- Ability to review, understand, and apply concepts presented at conferences and/or professional literature
Education Requirements:
High School degree or equivalent (GED) required, Associate's Degree in related discipline preferred
Compensation and Benefits:
Starting range is dependent upon individual qualifications and experience. Concordia retirement plan enrollment is available to part-time employees. Tuition benefits may also be available.
