The Opportunity:
The Technical Accountant performs professional work in the financial and accounting areas of the organization. This includes leading the financial reporting, audits, investigating, evaluating and problem-solving regarding transaction processing, grant functions, payables and receivables of the organization. The position is integral to ensure accuracy and timeliness of accounting activities and to maintain a sound financial control environment.
Essential Duties:
- Demonstrate knowledge and support of the organization’s mission, core values, goals, policies and procedures, and ethical standards.
- Formulate and recommend accounting policies and makes recommendations to improve existing accounting system. Monitor various financial activities and prepare reports accordingly.
- Prepare adjusting and closing entries and responsible for month end close; perform complex reconciliations.
- Participate directly in external audit, work with external auditors and prepare work papers.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts such as Bank accounts liability accounts and asset accounts.
- Advise on updates of payroll system for changes to IRS tax tables, pay schedule changes, holidays, etc., as needed.
- Coordinates the development of, and prepares, school general fund and special projects budgets; prepares budget transfers as appropriate; monitors charter school budgets.
- Maintain local, state, and federal financial reporting as required.
- Participate in state, federal, and foundation grants as applicable. Ensure proper implementation of grant funds, tracking of activity, and follow up reporting as required.
- Support Head of Finance and Accounting Manager on projects and tasks as needed.
- Coordinates with outside accounting firms as needed.
- Prepares and maintains purchase orders and other expense records; approves, logs, and monitors expenditures; reconciles site records with monthly reports; resolves discrepancies; and ensures expenditures are within budget allowances for the month and year.
- Assist schools with the procurement of supplies, materials, equipment, and inventory management.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience
- Education experience preferred.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
- Microsoft Office, Excel in particular, proficiency required.
- Excellent communication skills required.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English fluently.
- Employment is contingent upon a clear fingerprint and criminal history record.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in accounting or finance preferred.
- Position is subject to a skills assessment.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
- This is a full-time position; however, this position can require long hours and occasional weekend work.
