About the Role and Responsibilities
We are seeking a Technical Editor to support our team by ensuring documents are free from typographical, spelling, and grammatical errors while enhancing flow, mechanics, punctuation, and sentence structure in a fast-paced setting.
- Copy Editing (approximately 70% time): Edit a variety of documents, including proposals, technical reports, internal documents, service award letters, and other deliverables, aligning with client and project needs, often under tight deadlines.
- Technical Editing (approximately 15% time): Review the technical content of documents to improve flow and voice, offer recommendations for revisions, and collaborate with authors and technical staff on edits. Occasionally serve as the integrating writer for content created by multiple authors.
- Administrative Project Management (approximately 15% time): Manage administrative resources, including resumes and project summaries. Provide backup support for team members and take on additional duties as needed.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in English, Technical Communication, or related field and 2+ years of experience in editing/proofreading; or an Associate's degree and 5+ years of experience.
- Proficiency in following publication styles and editing requirements, particularly the 7th edition American Psychological Association (APA) Style Guide.
- Strong attention to detail, with proven skills in copy and content editing, and the ability to quickly grasp new concepts and complex topics to suggest effective edits.
- Strong teamwork, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work well with colleagues and communicate effectively.
- Proven ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment without compromising quality.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and SharePoint.
- Knowledge of Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and the proposal process is a plus.
- Knowledge of Section 508 requirements is a plus.
U.S. citizenship is required for this position based on government contract requirements.
This position will be located at our corporate headquarters in Old Town Alexandria, VA.
