We are currently seeking talented individuals for our Technician 2 - Electric Power Generation (EPG) position!

Here is some of what you’ll do…

POSITION SUMMARY: 

Without supervision, will perform duties as assigned by management in the repair, maintenance and/or rebuilding of equipment in the service shop or field, in a safe, efficient and capable manner in the least amount of labor hours possible, and without re-work.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Troubleshoots mechanical problems in Caterpillar and allied products.
2. Makes warranty recommendations and prepare reports when performing warranty service jobs.
3. Performs plumbing and D.C. electric repairs.
4. Attends training classes as directed and obtains passing grades in all.
5. Reconditions or overhauls major components to manufacturer’s specifications.
6. Recommends action to correct the failure or problem.
7. Adheres strictly to HPS safety, housekeeping, credit and other rules, policies and procedures.
8. Maintains a favorable business relationship with customers, suppliers and personnel from other HPS departments.
9. Takes scheduled fluid samples.
10. Diagnoses System and Component failures.
11. Performs Equipment Condition Reporting.
12. Informs management and other team members of pertinent information such as procedures, policies, changes which is received from other employees, customers or factory reps if deemed appropriate.
13. Analyzes all Caterpillar and related Power Generation equipment systems and components for proper operation in arrangement application based on theory of design.
14. Demonstrates proficiency in reading technical data and schematic drawings.
15. Performs new and used equipment start-up for delivery to end-user.
16. Conducts customer training in proper use of electrical equipment.
17. Performs installation surveys and define corrective actions needed to assure proper engine functions. 
18. Tests, calibrates, and repairs field transducers for engine and generator support systems. 
19. Determines if installed monitoring/metering equipment is appropriate for required application.
20. Performs and records generator insulation tests.
21. Performs resistive / reactive load testing of generators.
22. Performs mounting system and alignment checks and adjustments.
23. Sets up and records vibration data for analysis, be able to review data and make corrective actions.
24. Makes wiring connection and power up checks on EPG installations and be able to make field adjustments and setting changes based on actual system performance including voltage regulators, governors, load and VAR sharing devices.
25. Defines, documents and performs system level surveys and audits for engine and support systems and assure installed equipment performs as required by contract documentation.

 EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

1. Must have a valid California Class C Drivers License.
2. Minimum five (5) years experience in the repair and maintenance of Comm. / EPG/ Marine power generation equipment.
3. Working knowledge and testing capabilities.
4. Basic diagnostics and troubleshooting of systems.
5. High school graduate or G.E.D. or can provide verification of all formal classroom study or hands on experience related to heavy equipment repairs.
6. Furnish mechanics hand tools and sufficient test tooling to perform diagnostics on Caterpillar adjustments.
7. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and be able to document and record site and equipment conditions, prepare written work procedures, and work scope documents.  Be able to prepare final reports suitable for presentation to end user.
8. Be proficient in computer skills such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, CAT ET and SIS, and be able to work with related computer programs associated with system controllers and devices.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

1. Walking and moving about on foot often through uneven terrain.
2. Hands/arms operating equipment, hand and power tools.
3. Handling: Works with hands.
4. Lifting: Raises or lowers miscellaneous equipment parts and tools. Lifts up to 60 lbs. with frequent exertion.
5. Reaching: Extends hands and arms in any direction.
6. Stooping: Bends body downward and forward by bending at knees or waist.
7. Standing: Remains in standing position if required for certain repair or maintenance work.
8. Climbing: In and out of equipment.
9. Vision: Reads work tickets, parts and service books and operate heavy equipment.
10. Talking: Communicates via telecommunications and in person.
11. Hearing: Hears well enough to discern mechanical problems for safety in and around shop and construction sites and to receive communication by radio, phone and in person.
12. Sitting: Sits in equipment and vehicles.
13. Lying: Lies in prone position under vehicles and equipment.

ENVIRONMENTAL:          

1. Noise: Works in conditions with constant or intermittent noise.
2. Temperatures/Weather: Works outside and in shop with variations of temperature and weather.
3. Exposure: Foul odors, fumes and harsh substances.
