SUMMARY:
The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for overseeing, maintaining, and administering computer networks and related computing environments including systems software, applications software, hardware, and configurations in our District. This position works closely with the users of our network and the network team to identify potential issues and fix existing problems.
The Senior Network Engineer will need to have a strong understanding of network infrastructure and network hardware. Deep knowledge of application transport, unified communications, network security, and network infrastructure protocols is highly desired.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Network Management
- Maintaining and administering computer networks and related computing environments including systems software, applications software, hardware, and configurations.
- Performing disaster recovery operations and data backups when required.
- Protecting data, software, and hardware by coordinating, planning, and implementing network security measures.
- Oversees day-to-day operations and supervises the Network Team.
- Troubleshooting, diagnosing; and resolving hardware, software, and other network and system problems.
- Replacing faulty network hardware components when required.
- Maintaining, configuring, and monitoring virus protection software and email applications.
- Monitoring network performance to determine if adjustments need to be made.
- Conferring with network users about solving existing system problems.
- Operating master consoles to monitor the performance of networks and computer systems.
- Coordinating computer network access and use.
- Designing, configuring, and testing networking software, computer hardware, and operating system software.
- Provide leadership for the Network Team supporting network switching, routing, and collaboration services.
- Prioritize issues and delegate tasks as needed.
- Perform daily assessment of Network Team tickets to ensure tickets/issues are being documented and resolved.
- Perform other duties, as assigned by the Director of Network Infrastructure, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of district network infrastructure services.
Analysis and Collaboration
- Provide Network Team with necessary tools and credentials needed to perform onsite assessments and troubleshooting of network and collaboration environments within District facilities.
- Facilitate routine Network Team meetings for the purpose of reviewing/identifying issues, project planning/recommendations, supporting Network Team staff, and serving as a Network Team representative.
- Provide cross-training opportunities with Network Team staff for team coverage purposes.
- Act as an escalation point for tickets and issues needing additional or elevated assistance.
- Monitor Network Team procedures for the purpose of ensuring a secure, efficient, quality network for network and collaboration services.
- Assist with personnel functions for the purpose of maintaining adequate Network Team staffing, enhancing the productivity of Network Team personnel, and achieving objectives within budget.
Recordkeeping, Reporting and Inventory
- Write manuals and document current network procedures.
- Create and maintain documentation as it relates to system configuration, mapping, processes, and service records.
- Monitor and test system performance; prepare and deliver system performance statistics and reports.
- Document all issues, activities, and resolutions using consistent and clear language.
- Utilize knowledgebase and suggest documentation improvements.
Policy and Law
- Perform other duties, as assigned by the Director of Infrastructure Network Operations, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of District network infrastructure services.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Pursue Professional Development activities for self and assigned staff; ensure that Professional Development activities are aligned with District goals and initiatives and current professional research.
- Comply with all policies, operating procedures, legal requirements, and verbal and written directives.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor’s Degree in IT or a related field of study with a network engineering focus (preferred)
- CCNACertificationrequired
- CCNA R&S, CCNP, CCNA Cyber Ops, CCIE R&S certifications(preferred)
Experience:
- Five (5) to seven (7) years IT and networking experience
- Experience working with server technologies (preferred)

SPECIAL KNOWLEGDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Solid understanding of voice networking architecture/designs to include SIP Trunking, Session Management, and Unified Communication Applications
- Experience with a large-scale deployment of UC technologies in an enterprise environment
- Experience in evaluating and successful implementation of new voice/video/collaboration/data networking technologies
- Skillsin problem-solving, attention to detail, prompt documentation, time management
- Excellent oral and written communication
- Ability to work in collaboration with staff that has varying technology skills as well as work independently when necessary
- Strong understanding of network infrastructure and network hardware.
- Ability to implement, administer, and troubleshoot network infrastructure devices, including wireless access points, firewalls, routers, switches, and controllers.
- Knowledge of application transport, unified communications, and network infrastructure protocols. Ability to think through problems and visualize solutions.
- Ability to summarize complex technical issues both orally and in writing, and to justify recommendations for large-scale network changes and implementations.
- Ability to review and approve testing and implementation plans for proposed solutions.
- Ability to problem-solve information technology networks, systems, and applications as it applies to projects.
- Ability to work with systems, networks, and other groups in Technology Support Services to effectively communicate changes and technical problems to get them resolved in a timely manner.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
- Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply related federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, rules, and regulations.
- Ability to develop and implement policies, procedures, goals, and objectives.
- Ability to evaluate the effectiveness of processes of varying levels of complexity, and to develop changes or alternatives.
