Duties of Position: The advisor will assist students in developing personal and academic skills needed to successfully complete the nursing program. Conducts proactive outreach to ensure nursing students are prepared to progress through their academic coursework and are prepared to continue on for a Bachelor in Science in Nursing degree. In addition, advisor will provide strategies and instruction for course work success. Major responsibilities include assisting students in removing barriers to completion, serving as a resource expert for students to connect them to the appropriate service or department, and collaborating with nursing faculty and student development personnel to identify strategies for assisting students.
Project Coordinator for IBHE grant.
Supports a case load of up to 350 students and monitors nursing students’ progress toward completing their educational goals.
Maintains weekly office hours and weekly communication with students and documents these interactions accordingly. Responds to students via email, phone, and in-person contacts.
Fosters a relationship with faculty members in nursing programs to support student persistence.
Develops a meaningful rapport with nursing students and provides individualized coaching and ongoing feedback. Supports students in improving skills via laboratory and simulation activities.
Assess student needs and connect them to existing college resources; identify resources to enhance both academic success and personal development (i.e., Tutoring Center, Math Lab, Writing Center, etc.).
Conducts meetings with students seeking help in interpreting, evaluating and correcting academic challenges. Motivates students to take ownership of their academic success.
Assists students in developing decision-making skills.
Promotes healthy approaches to balancing the demands of college, work and family.
Collaborates with nursing faculty to develop innovative skill lab activities to support the student achievement of nursing program outcomes.
Communicates regularly with faculty regarding student progress and to identify course specific strategies that promote student success.
Assist with the “White Coat Ceremony.”
Collect and Evaluates student progress.
Collaborate with Universities offering a RN-BSN and RN-MSN
Develop with input from universities concurrent course work toward timely BSN completion.
Maintains data for reporting grant outcomes and completion of grant documents.
Arrange for university visits to conduct degree audit for application.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions: Work is primarily indoor and sedentary in nature.
Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in nursing. Master’s degree preferred.
Experience Requirements: Demonstrates excellent oral, presentation, written and interpersonal communication skills. Organized
