About the Job
- Create thermal and mechanical models for 200G VCSEL and 400G Silicon Photonics transceiver packages with sufficient detail to predict maximum operating junction temperature of semiconductor devices inside the package.
- The package may contain short wavelength GaAs based lasers or long wavelength InP based lasers.
- The package may also contain silicon-based drivers as well as Trans impedance Amplifiers (TIA's).
- The package will contain a PCB where the effective thermal conductivity will need to be determined depending on the layout of the PCB.
- The package may be mounted on a cold plate or evaluated with external air flow or water-cooling conditions.
- Power consumption estimates of the devices will be provided by Coherent.
- The deliverable will be thermal/mechanical design and detailed thermal contour maps of the package and specific junction temperature of devices in a PowerPoint Summary Document
Education & Experience
- Minimum 7 yr. experience.
- BS/MS Thermal Engineering or equivalent degree.
Skills
- A successful Thermal Design Engineer should possess technical expertise in thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and computer-aided design (CAD).
- Analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail are also crucial for resolving complex thermal engineering challenges.
Working Conditions
- Regular use of a computer and other office equipment is necessary
- Interaction with team members
Physical Requirements
- Sitting for extended periods while working on a computer or conducting meetings.
- Use of hands and fingers for typing, writing, and handling documents.
- Occasional lifting of objects or materials up to 20 pounds for administrative tasks.
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
- Mobility within the office environment to attend meetings or interact with colleagues.
