POSITION SUMMARY:
The Transportation Analyst - Inbound role within the Distribution Center (“DC”) at Ocean State Job Lot (“OSJL” and “Company”) is responsible for the effective utilization of drivers, equipment, third party carriers and tools to maximize service and productivity while remaining compliant with state and federal regulations as well as Company policies. This role oversees the day-to-day operations involved with inbound transportation planning and routing of freight and containers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support management in achieving Company objectives and driving results through the performance development and review processes.
- Handle incoming calls and ensure timely responses to stores, drivers, and carriers, communicating any issues to drivers and management as needed.
- Effectively communicate all pertinent issues amongst the dispatch operations team to ensure all issues are handled.
- Utilize Manhattan Active Transportation Management Software (“TMS”) for:
- Daily inbound planning and routing;
- Tender loads to the fleet or third party carriers maximizing the fleet and minimizing total cost;
- Manage invoice and contract compliance and resolve issues as quickly and economically as possible; and
- Provide reporting and analysis support for department applications for operations and leadership.
- Utilize TMS, Trimble Mobility (PeopleNet), On Board Computer (“OBC”), Orbcomm trailer tracking and Century Supply Chain Solutions to:
- Track and report service times;
- Ensure routes are completed timely;
- Communicate service issues to leaders and customers both internal & external; and
- Track Intermodal Container flow.
- Monitor and control container flow from ship to DC and empty return to port avoiding demurrage and detention when economically advantageous.
- Develop For Hire opportunities for the private fleet, maximizing fleet utilization and maximizing gross profit per load.
- Develop and track continuous improvement targets for the Transportation Department. Document and maintain Transportation Department processes and information flow, touch points with other areas of the organization, and data sources for reporting.
- Responsible for influencing positive associate morale and quality customer service.
- Independently identify opportunities to improve processes and reduce costs and recommend creative solutions.
- Maintain positive relations with stores, internal corporate stakeholders, and third party partners.
- Ensure compliance with OSJL policy and state and federal regulations and maintain appropriate and accurate documentation of the same.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Prior experience in dispatch and transportation operations is preferred.
- High School diploma or equivalent is required; a college degree is preferred.
- Experience with transportation software is preferred.
- Strong Computer skills, proficient in Google platform (i.e. Gmail, Sheets, Slides, Docs, Drive), MS Office, and telephone skills are required.
- Proficiency in English is required; bilingual in Spanish is preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Works primarily in a distribution center environment in a climate controlled environment with minimal safety and health hazard potential.
- Works in an office environment remaining stationary at a desk, table, or computer workstation for extended periods of time. Frequently uses near vision for reading and computer tasks.
- On call to remotely cover the 24-hour dispatch line on average every fifth (5th) week. Some weekend work may be required during seasonal times depending on the needs of the business.

The salary range for this position is between $55,000 - $70,000 / year. Salary commensurates with experience.
