ID: 51220088 Shift: Day Shift with On-Call Rotation (Weeknights, Weekends and Holidays) Description: Cardiovascular Intervention includes the specialties of Interventional Cardiology, Interventional Neurology, Interventional Radiology, and Electrophysiology. The candidate for this position will be trained in all of these specialties. Verify patient identification. Verify presence of appropriate signed informed procedural consent. Identify allergies and history of contrast reaction prior to any procedure, using patient records and by questioning patient.Verify package integrity and expiration date of sterile supplies. Verify the type, concentration, amount, and expiration date of medications. Prepare equipment for sterilization. Monitor and record vital signs, assess distal pulses pre and post procedure. Participate in the pre-procedural time-out activity.Prepare the access site(s) to include the required sterile drapes and covers, provide for patient comfort and cooperation by familiarizing the patient with the equipment and the examination. Prepare the patient for the examination to include physiological monitoring equipment.In conjunction with the physician, select the appropriate contrast agent. Set up and operate the automatic contrast injector, and ensure its proper function and cleanliness.Prepare or assist in administering injectable medications according to physician s orders, to include analgesics, anticoagulants, thrombolytics, vasoactives, and emergency medications.Recognize and respond to patient emergencies. Monitor and maintain medical equipment during the procedure. Adjust and calibrate pressure transducers.Scrub with the physician. Use sterile and aseptic technique as required to help prevent infection. Handle blood and body fluids in a manner appropriate to biohazardous materials.Advocate for radiation safety and protection. Wear a personnel radiation dosimeter. Take appropriate precautions to minimize patient and occupational radiation exposure. Document fluoroscopy time and radiation dose. Evaluate dose reports to determine if values are within established limits.Position the patient and/or imaging equipment to achieve desired projections. Select appropriate imaging protocols (e.g. frame rates, high/low level fluoro) to optimize image quality while minimizing dose. Employ image enhancement techniques during procedure to improve image quality.Acquire and process digital images (e.g. road mapping, subtraction, annotation, magnification) and perform 3D image reconstructions.Assist with ultrasound guidance for vascular access or organ access/biopsy. Monitor and record all procedural data (e.g. injection data, physiologic data, administered medications, complications).Assist with procedures to include vascular access, and all assigned diagnostic and interventional procedures.Provide patient post-procedural care. Apply pressure to arterial or venous puncture site. Apply dressing to puncture. Place vascular closure devices.
