**Job Description:**
- Coordinate and direct all activities of the Chemistry and Immunology laboratories to achieve maximum quality of testing and compliance with regulatory agencies.
- Assure delivery of quality department/clinical services in line with established hospital and regulatory/accreditation standards.
- Ensure employee compliance with hospital and Human Resources policies and procedures.
- Guarantee employee competency and education requirements are satisfied according to hospital policy.
- Participate in the Performance Improvement Program as defined by the organization.
- Attend management/leadership meetings and communicate hospital policies and initiatives to staff.
- Participate in committees, task forces, and projects as appropriate.
- Ensure a safe environment for both employees and patients.
- Foster collaboration within the interdisciplinary team and promote teamwork hospital-wide.
- Demonstrate and promote exceptional customer service and employee relations.
- Support hospital initiatives and act as a change agent.
- Train and supervise Chemistry Scientists on specialized tests; interpret results for physicians and advise on follow-up tests when necessary.
- Oversee Quality Control Program and prepare monthly Quality Control reports.
- Handle department payroll and timesheets.
- Stay informed about accrediting agencies' regulatory standards for Clinical Chemistry Laboratory compliance.
- Document test implementation and staff training.
- Oversee and review Point-of-Care Glucose testing for the Department of Laboratories.
- Maintain effective communication within and outside the Laboratory Department.
- Establish a Quality Assurance Program for the Chemistry Section, including reviewing technologist performance and compliance.
- Assist with the development and effective utilization of laboratory/computer software.
- Troubleshoot instrument malfunctions as needed.
- Monitor turnaround time for Chemistry, Special Chemistry, and Reference Tests.
- Perform duties of Sectional Scientist and Assistant Supervisor as needed.
- Develop and submit departmental goals and objectives.
- Manage hiring, evaluating, counseling, and termination of employees according to hospital policy.
- Ensure staff completes orientation and ongoing competency and education requirements.
- Participate in educational programs to maintain current knowledge or expertise in managing the department.
- Utilize various methodologies to communicate information.
- Adhere to safety standards for employees and patients.
- Execute additional duties and responsibilities as requested by the Director of Laboratories, Laboratory Administrator, or their designee.
