Overview
Troubleshoot, repair, recondition, and service all makes and models of trucks. Must be able to identify and evaluate root cause failures through the use of electronic tools, schematics and other trouble shooting methods. Be able to demonstrate proper communication methods in order to effectively explain equipment conditions, truck status and recommendations, to customers, associates and management.
Basic Duties
PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to):
- Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment malfunctions and failures.
- Maintain good customer relations and support for corporate marketing objectives.
- Repair, recondition, and maintain equipment and components.
- Prepare service reports.
- Plan and control cost of repair jobs.
- Maintain company equipment – keep in good clean orderly condition.
- Work safely at all times. Adhere to all applicable safety policies.
- Comply with all company policies, procedures and standards.
- Own and maintain required personal tools.
- Learn and use Altorfer, Caterpillar and allied product procedures and systems.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- The ability to fabricate and install hydraulic systems on trucks.
- The ability to weld when necessary.
- Minimum of 5 years related experience with maintenance of fleet vehicles of all makes and models and DOT inspection knowledge.
- Travel to remote locations as needed.
- Make warranty recommendations.
- Work overtime as needed.
- Communicate with proper individuals to clarify instructions or discuss scope or progress of job.
- Provide on-the-job training to technicians and helpers as assigned.
- Work within and promote corporate values.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic computer and internet knowledge is required, as well as knowledge in operating scanning/diagnostic tools.
- Must be able to meet all safety requirements for applicable safety policies and use of all required safety equipment.
- Must be able to communicate (speak, read, comprehend, write) in English.
- Communicate verbally and in writing, information, instructions and explanations to associates, customers and management regarding vehicle/component/equipment conditions, problems, recommendations, and repair processes.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license with clean driving record. This includes no more than 2 minor violations within the past 3 years and no major violations within the past 5 years (Motor Vehicle Report will be performed on final candidate). Have current CDL driver’s license or obtain within 90 days of hire.
- Minimum of 5 years related experience.
- Knowledge and skills to operate and understand diagnostic equipment including computerized instrumentation.
- Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively.
- Knowledge of truck components and systems.
- Must have acceptable attendance to meet all company standards and requirements.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
This position works the majority of the time in a heavy equipment shop. May on a continuous basis walk, bend, twist, and lift up to 75lbs. At times you may be required to move/operate trucks to figure out what maintenance needs to be performed. The noise level in the shop environment is usually moderate to high. This position also spends a portion of time in an office environment. May, sit at desk for a long period of time; intermittently answer telephone and write or use a keyboard to communicate through written means. Must be flexible to work overtime as needed.
