Job Description Summary
The Medical University of South Carolina is seeking a Medical Director to lead its emerging Ehlers Danlos Syndrome Institute (EDSI). The EDSI represents a merged clinical and research institute for understanding treatment and science related to Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and related comorbidities. This individual will oversee all clinical responsibilities of the EDSI. The Medical Director reports to Executive Leadership of Hospital Services at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) and is responsible for providing clinical and administrative leadership for the EDSI. The Medical Director position is comprised of administrative and clinical time and will be required to maintain sufficient clinical time to remain competent in their specialty. The Medical Director is responsible for ensuring the provision of high quality, evidence-based, and patient-centered clinical care. The Medical Director collaborates with the scientific director of the EDSI, executive leadership at MUSC, and other leaders within the MUSC Health Network.Entity

Job Description
We are seeking candidates with:
MD, DO or MD/PhD from accredited medical school and completion of approved residency program.
Current Board Certification in Primary Specialty
Leadership experience and training preferred
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with ability to build consensus and engage physicians
Academic orientation, enthusiasm for teaching, passion for outreach and research
Essential functions:
Leadership
Oversee creation of clinical platform to provide needed clinical consultation, care and services for needs of EDS patient population
Establish and maintain collaborative partnerships with clinical departments to actively expand clinical providers’ partnership to drive quality care for complex clinical population.
Active partnership with EDS Research Director to drive all aspects of a comprehensive EDS Clinical and Research platform at MUSC Health
Support recruitment of clinical provider and onboarding
Patient Care
Develop and provide care and clinical oversight for EDS Specialty Concierge Clinic at MUSC and specialties contained within the institute.
Support Patient Experience initiatives and improve clinical performance, through evidence-based programs and processes
Develop and oversee clinical and quality programs and protocols
Report Quality benchmarks to appropriate bodies
Participate in organizationally prioritized committees
Education and Research
Develop and implement Internal educational rotations and act as liaison with GME, UME and advance practice providers.
Engage with the scientific director of the EDSI to cross pollinate clinical and scientific studies of interest that will collectively move the needle on fundamental causes of EDS
