Salado Isolation Mining Contractors (SIMCO), managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as a Underground Work Control Planner and join our team located in Carlsbad, NM.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the development of corrective/preventive maintenance work control documents (WCDs) in support of Underground Operations at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) in Carlsbad, New Mexico. Candidate will be responsible for obtaining and maintaining appropriate training and qualifications (e.g., Work Planner authorization card, 40-hour MSHA miner, RadWorker-II). Position requires ability to work in the underground, full time.
Job duties include:
- Coordinating walkdowns with a team of subject matter experts and safety professionals to define and bind activity scope, identify hazards, and select appropriate controls to incorporate into WCDs.
- Initiating actions to procure parts and materials.
- Facilitating work planning team meetings.
- Addressing priorities as assigned by Work Control Management.
- Managing backlog of lower priority items.
- Developing proficiency with Computerized Maintenance Management System (CHAMPS) to ensure accurate tracking of WCDs and records.
- Incorporating Craft feedback and Lessons Learned in planning activities.
Exempt Grade Levels (28-34)

- Bachelor’s degree, or
- Associate’s degree with four (4) years of relevant experience, or
- High School Diploma or Equivalency with eight (8) years of relevant experience is required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
Must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
Preferred Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
- Operations experience within the DOE complex or commercial nuclear industry.
- Maintenance experience/certification (Electrical, Mechanical, Instrumentation & Controls)
- Knowledge of safety regulations and protocols related to maintenance activities.
- Professional certification in maintenance planning (e.g. Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional) is a plus.
- Previous WIPP Project experience.
- Proven experience as a Work Control Planner or a similar role, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
- Strong knowledge of maintenance planning principles, practices, and scheduling techniques.
- Proficient in using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and other relevant software.

Minimum salary $67,817 per year of a larger salary range --the specific salary offered to a candidate will be influenced by a variety of factors, particularly the candidate’s relevant experience and education.
