This is a job rotational role that will encompass 3 areas of the Advanced Products and Technology (APT) group. The areas of this rotation will be in System Engineering, Vehicle Protection and Core Technology Development.
This will include learning and executing Systems Engineering principles, a core knowledge of military vehicle design, and integration and test of systems and subsystems. The Associate Engineer will participate in multi-disciplined teams of Systems Engineering and Design Engineering Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) with a spirit of creativity, innovation, quality, and continuous improvement. With a focus on researching, studying, designing, and executing advanced concepts you will enable GDLS to successfully capture, execute, and grow US-based programs of record, and also position this set of emerging technologies to compete and grow in international markets.

Responsibilities to Anticipate/Expect:
(approximately 9 - 12 months job Rotation in each of the following areas of our APT Group)

Future Systems / Advanced Concepts & Systems Engineering Engineer
This Future Systems` role is focused on the development of new concepts, technology research, special studies, and advanced system-level product development for defense systems.
- Execute rapid concept development using Computer Aided Design and conduct studies, proposals, and analysis of alternatives.
- Learn and apply Systems Engineering processes in the development of new vehicle and subsystem concepts.
- Perform analysis, definition, and management of system requirements, functions, architectures and interfaces and their allocation to product subsystems.
- Perform integration, build and test/evaluation activities for prototypes (vehicles, systems, subsystems, and components).
- Research, assess and support the study of new technologies, capabilities, and disruptive solutions.
- Develop competitive solutions for proposal efforts.
- Work closely in a team environment with Future Systems Engineers.
- Support initiatives to improve and optimize SE processes and adoption of tools to enable our ability to go further and faster with R&D investments.
Future Systems / Vehicle Protection Systems Engineer
This Future Systems role is focused on Vehicle Protection Systems ( VPS) technology inclusive of Hardkill Active Protection Systems (APS), softkill APS, pre-shot detection systems, Counter UAS technology, Laser warning systems and signature management technologies.
- Responsible for VPS product development and tasks to help integrate cross-functional technical scope within schedule and other constraints. Help project team to ensure a balanced, integrated, and compliant VPS design across the vehicle system.
- Plan, execute, and coordinate development tasks during the design phase and physical and functional integration and test activities during the implementation phase.
- Develop and manage System requirements and interface allocations including Performance and SWaP-C and enforce across the design team; develop system specification requirements compliance documentation.
- Coordinate requirements, architectures and system designs and any changes, conditions, inputs and final resolution for requirements, trades, and alternatives.
- Develop, support and conduct trade studies/structured decisions for system and subsystem design including system-level impacts to include balance of space, weight, power, cost, reliability, and performance across a VPS vehicle suites.
- Oversee development of verification plans and manage their execution including VPS test and production and field site shakedown and verification.
- Participate in and lead design and integration troubleshooting/RCCA and problem report/test incident resolution for production, development, test, or modification projects.
- Develop and evaluate checkpoint and design milestone artifacts and CDRLs and review to ensure technical accuracy and compliance with contract requirements.
- Coordinate with platform Design IPTs where interface is required, such as in threat handoff and transfer to lethality or other vehicle functions.
- Evaluate new VPS technologies for potential use on GDLS products.
- Participate in design and drawing peer reviews.
Future Systems / Core Technology Engineer
This Future Systems Role will focus on pioneering new technical solutions through research of emerging science and technologies for software, artificial intelligence, automation, and robotics related products.
- Support the development of new technologies to help transform our business and the technology base of our platforms.
- Perform development, test, and evaluation activities for software, artificial intelligence, automation, and robotics related products.
- Contribute to a small team helping us explore, buy-down risk, and advocate for new-technologies inside the larger business. The technologies involved are expected to be deeply rooted in software, ai, automation and robotics.
- Be responsible for quality project execution.
- Conduct research, globally, to technology developers, partners, and especially academia.
- Pilot all new methodologies to streamline our work and inform future ways of doing business.
- Represent Future Systems and GDLS to senior leadership and our global clients.
- Help execute tasks aligned with our multi-year product and capability roadmaps.
- Develop competitive solutions for proposal efforts.
- Foster a spirit of collaboration across the enterprise.

Minimum Qualifications / What you must have:
Position Requirements (candidates will be considered on the aggregate of the position requirements, it is not required that candidates possess experience in all categories):
- Bachelors in Engineering, (Systems, Mechanical, Electrical, Robotics, Computer, Computer Science), or related engineering discipline.
- Masters Degree desired
- Minimum of 1-3 years’ experience.
- Strong background in programming languages (e.g., C++, Python, MATLAB/Simulink, ROS)
- Experience with version control systems (e.g., Plastic, GIT)
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- A technologist mindset – with strong interest and enthusiasm for emerging capabilities, especially with AI, human machine interface and automation/robotics.
- Experience/interest in military vehicle development and integration.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Project).
- Proficiency with laboratory and test/analysis equipment preferred.
- Ability to travel (mostly domestic, some international) up to 15%.
- Must satisfy Anthropometric Size Restrictions for access to military vehicles and be able to climb on vehicles and pass through hatches.
Additional Information
- This position will require eligibility to obtain a US security clearance. (Non-US Citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance).
- This position may require the candidate to be able to climb on/off, work in, and work around military vehicles is desired. Must be able to pass ASR test (Anthropometric Size Requirement for confined space).
- The candidate will need to have strong written and oral communication skills.
- Able to work overtime when required.
- Able to bring continuous improvement processes and methodologies to the position.
- Limited travel maybe required including foreign travel if needed.
