Summary:
The VDC Technician will be an integral part of our layout, reality capture, and VDC services across multiple projects, providing on-site services for construction technology, ensuring quality deliverables directly to our project teams, collaborating with on-site project personnel, and operating some of the latest field technology in the industry. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and understanding of construction field operations.
Responsibilities:
- Manage, plan, and implement various technology-based processes on active projects or facilities, including operating reality capture equipment, robotic total stations, development of layout data and drawings, point-cloud post-production, and basic 3D model navigation and authoring.
- Perform on-site tasks safely and effectively in accordance with facility requirements and Riley standard operating procedures.
- Maintain open communication with project teams & field leaders to resolve issues in a timely manner
- Assist in modeling content from early design through construction for visualization and estimating
- Work with the Construction Technology Manager and other VDC staff to develop and implement company standards across individual projects.
- Perform additional assignments per the supervisor's direction.

- Ideal for individuals who want to move into a BIM-related position. It involves coordination between subcontractors and a deeper knowledge of the building & structural systems.

- If no promotion / vertical move is desired, team members may also consider doing the following:
- Remain as a VDC Technician
- Focus on improving current responsibilities, help leadership create procedures, etc., for specific aspects of the position.
- Lateral transfer to another department **
- Remain as a VDC Technician
Qualifications:
- Technical Degree in architecture, construction management, civil engineering, construction administration, or similar discipline from a 2-year technical college
- 1-3 years of relevant industry experience
- A basic understanding of construction and generally accepted business practices
- An entry-level of competency with AutoCAD, Microsoft 365 products, and point cloud production software such as Leica Cyclone.
- Ability to assist with software troubleshooting and basic hardware troubleshooting.
- Moderate understanding of the design and construction process, visual schedules, master plans, construction sequences, and detail orientation sufficient to organize and effectively manage multiple tasks.
- Ability to work closely with project teams, work within project schedules, adjust communication approach and format to meet the needs of differing personalities, expectations, and types of clients and contacts, and be willing to travel to project sites as needed.
