Our company has been providing local restaurants with the finest ingredients available since 1915. Located in Philadelphia, we are a family-owned food wholesale distribution company. In the past several years we have experienced tremendous growth and we are currently looking to add to our team. We are seeking a highly motivated Director of Purchasing. The VP of Purchasing position will develop and lead all facets of the Purchasing Department for Julius Silvert, a specialty food wholesale distribution company. The candidate must be detail-oriented, systematic, well-organized, polished, and a high-energy team player.
Responsibilities:
- Negotiate with suppliers concerning forecasting, availability, pricing, freight (including international), and terms and conditions of sale
- Build and maintain vendor relationships
- Coordinate and interface with internal departments such as to provide optimum cross-functional planning and execution of purchasing functions
- Develop and maintain records, spreadsheets, supporting documentation, and files regarding supplier activities and profiles
- Identify, develop, and support cost-saving measures
- Manage and resolve product supply issues
- Manage the setup and maintenance of vendor information in the company software system
- Manage documentation for new item setup and the inputting of data and pricing into the company software system
- Prepare monthly updates on markets and conditions for all commodity items
- Secure marketing monies yearly from vendors
- Train, develop, lead, and stretch Purchasing Staff to reach maximum abilities
- Develop a succession plan for the Purchasing Department
Qualifications:
- 5+ years’ experience with food and beverage purchasing
- 2-3+ years’ experience in a Director or VP position (food industry preferred*)
- Strong knowledge and use of Microsoft Office Tools
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with constant changes
- Ability to multi-task many activities, projects, and timelines
- Good organizational skills, attention to detail, and accuracy
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Must be able to communicate with personnel at all levels of the organization including ownership
- Self-starter with the ability to set priorities and goals and work to accomplish the goals
- Strong negotiation skills
