JOB SUMMARY
The Vehicle Automation Engineer will participate in the entire product development life cycle for low-level, model-based controllers responsible for actuation and motion control for retrofitted autonomous trucks. Duties include, but are not limited to, requirements gathering, development, design, implementation, testing, and support.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collaboration as a team player, working closely with other team members on design reviews and development to not only ensure individual success but also helping others be successful.
- Participation in design and development of electrical equipment, components, products, and systems for autonomous vehicle control.
- Developing applications of controls, instruments, and systems for autonomous vehicle control.
- Design of tests and requirements for fabrication of test control apparatus and equipment, and determining methods, procedures, and conditions for testing products.
- Interface on a technical level with vendors of electro-mechanical actuator and/or sensing modules.
- Working closely with the product team to ensure that customer/business requirements and constraints are clear before any design is done.
- Integrating systems with external vehicle actuation and OEM electro-mechanical and electro-hydraulic control systems.
- Support of in-field applications for analyzing data, diagnosing, and correcting defects.
- Requirements gathering and analysis, conceptualizing, designing, and developing solutions.
- Clear and concise written and verbal communication for highly technical concepts.
ESSENTIAL EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE, JOB SKILLS
- At least 5+ years of full-time professional experience in electrical or controls engineering.
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent field
- Up to 15% travel
- Passion for comprehensive system design, control systems, and machine safety
- Understanding of product line engineering and ability to architect designs that support product lines a plus.
- Strong experience using model/graphical based programming environments (ex. LabVIEW, Simulink).
- Danfoss PLUS+1 GUIDE experience is a plus.
- Strong understanding of electromechanical and electrohydraulic control systems for vehicle control and their dynamics.
- Strong background in electronics and electro-mechanical troubleshooting at a system and subsystem level.
- Strong background in designing systems for functional safety in accordance with ISO standards such as ISO 13489 and ISO 19014.
- Experienced and proficient in the use of test tools and equipment, such as Ocilloscopes, Logic analyzer, etc.
- Proficiency with reading and understanding electrical & mechanical schematics and drawings.
- Strong understanding of communication protocols such as CAN, I2C, SPI, and UART.
- Experience in firmware development using C/C++ is a plus.
- Ability to participate in a cross-functional team to develop new products, sustain current products, detect problems, implement solutions, assist operations and provide aftermarket support.
