We are looking for a Part-Time Veterinary Assistant or Veterinary Technician to join our dynamic Emergency Department team. Key Responsibilities
- Assisting Veterinarians and Technicians: Provide direct support to veterinarians and senior technicians in diagnostic procedures, treatment plans, and patient management in emergency situations.
- Client Interaction: Assist in providing excellent client service by educating clients on their pets' conditions, treatment plans, and post-care instructions. Build lasting, positive relationships with pet owners.
- Diagnostic Testing: Perform routine and emergency diagnostics, including radiographs (X-rays), bloodwork, urinalysis, fecals, and cytology to help diagnose and treat conditions.
- Medication Administration: Administer prescribed medications via IV (intravenous), SQ (subcutaneous), IM (intramuscular), and PO (oral) routes.
- IV Catheter Placement: Insert and maintain intravenous catheters for fluids, medications, and diagnostic tests.
- Sedation Assistance: Support veterinarians and technicians during sedated procedures, such as laceration repairsand other emergency interventions.
- Hospitalized Patient Care: Assist in providing care for critically ill patients in the ICU, including monitoring vital signs, administering medications, and providing comfort care.
- Restocking & Cleaning: Maintain an organized and stocked work environment, ensuring all clinical areas and equipment are cleaned, sanitized, and ready for use.
- Patient Monitoring: Observe, document, and report on the condition of hospitalized and critical patients, ensuring that all treatments are carried out as prescribed.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise to be Successful
- Clinical Experience: At least 2 years of clinical experience in a veterinary setting, with a preference for experience in emergency medicine, critical care, or specialty care.
- Veterinary Technician Certification (LVT, CVT, or RVT) is preferred, but not required. Veterinary Assistantswith strong experience and a willingness to learn are encouraged to apply.
- Knowledge of Veterinary Medicine: A solid understanding of veterinary protocols, anatomy, medications, and emergency procedures.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in performing basic laboratory tests, administering medications, placing IV catheters, and monitoring vital signs.
- Strong Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to clearly explain procedures and medical conditions to clients.
- Work Ethic & Attitude: A positive, professional attitude, with a demonstrated ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.
- Flexibility: The ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as our 24-hour veterinary hospital requires availability during all shifts.
- Experience in emergency care, critical care, or specialty veterinary practices.
- Knowledge of veterinary software such as Avimark, Cornerstone, or similar practice management tools.
- CPR and First Aid certification for animals.
