About the Job
The VP of Corporate Planning and Member Services reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and provides executive direction, accountability, and management of the following groups: Business Operations and Planning, Data Systems, Energy Accounting & Settlements, and Contracts & Business Analysis. Position provides senior level leadership to support the development of GSOC's overall strategic planning and initiatives.
Job Duties:
- Operations Management:
- Ensure that daily operations are efficient and that the results of projects and processes are of the highest possible quality. Executive oversight and direction of the planning, development, testing and implementation of information systems necessary for the proper accounting of energy and ancillary services transactions for Members, OPC and others. Manages individual and group team performance to the desired results and success in Member perception; holds individual groups and associates accountable. Provides leadership, direction and quality control, compliant and program management, and administration for department turnkey services to include:
- Processes and measurements are in place
- Continuous improvement efforts are sought out
- Quality control -- with appropriate parameters -- is in place
- Appropriate resources are allocated and managed
- Provides effective, efficient, and timely program development and management on assigned strategic initiatives.
- Systems: Ensures Group's information services and systems are appropriate and effective. Updates and plans for modifications of all department-related systems to ensure efficient administration for all governmental, state, corporate, and individual needs, now and in the future.
- Compliance - Comply with all legal, regulatory, and corporate requirements.
- Develops and presents Board materials, reports, etc. for the Board Committees and Board of Directors on department-related programs for GSOC, and share with OPC, GTC, or Members. Monitor progress on select projects and special assignments of interest to the CEO and updates the CEO as appropriate.
- Meets regularly with company vice presidents and executive leadership team to review and discuss issues of importance.

- Leadership: Provides insight to the executive leadership team including participating in the development of the strategic vision and initiatives for the organization. Inspire others to achieve individual, departmental, and other corporate objectives. Supports the corporate culture and provides the organization with the atmosphere, tools and processes that reinforce an empowered climate. Leads the department in research and development of strategic programs and services to help meet the needs of the Members, OPC, and GTC. Communicates a vision, strategy, and initiatives that are clear, understandable, and inspires other to succeed. Develops and manages individual and organizational performance to succeed and holds department and staff accountable. Supports and reinforces the desired corporate GSOC culture. Sets and models standards for integrity, cooperation, and work habits. Sets the pace of the group by establishing values and setting goals.
- Strategic Management: Assists in the development of strategic initiatives for GSOC and its Members. Seeks to understand the member's business and their strategic initiatives; anticipates their requirements. Gathers information regarding the corporation's vision, objectives, resources, and limitations and develops departmental strategies to assist with reaching the corporation's initiatives based on this information. Understands and clearly communicates the link between Board Policy, corporate strategy, and the work organization. Leads group towards a common goal. Prepares the organization to manage change to accommodate changing business needs.
Analyzes operating results of the organization and its principal components relative to established objectives and takes appropriate corrective actions to ensure goals are met. Vision - Employs vision to identify areas where the department can best support the corporation's, or Members' strategic business objectives. Organizational Readiness - Ensures the department's ability to manage change based on evolving business needs. As part of the corporate management team, identifies, manages, and is responsible for the effectiveness of the mitigations, activities, procedures, and controls to appropriately reduce risks to the corporation and to our customers. The risks and related mitigations may change from time to time. Ensures that business plans, business continuity and disaster recovery plans are current and executable. Establishes and communicates clear goals and objectives. Coordinate tasks requested by board members and follow up to ensure the timely completion of tasks as requested by CEO. Visits Members to discuss select topics, as needed.
- Relationship Management: Create an environment where associates and business partners (Members) feel comfortable bringing issues, concerns, and opportunities to your attention, and where they desire to work cooperatively with you to resolve issues and explore new opportunities. Builds and manages positive internal and external relationships with the Members, OPC, GTC and their agents. Proactively builds and maintains positive relationships to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction. Understands Member's requirements and stays apprised of their operating environments to ensure accuracy and value in the services provided. Communicates clearly, effectively, and on a timely basis. Proactively builds and manages positive relationships with leaders within the organization to ensure effective team results in delivering high-quality service.
- Personnel Management: Identification, selection, and management of staff. Ensures that experienced and knowledgeable personnel are hired and retained. Monitors progress of associates' work to ensure that deliverables meet the expectations of management and clients, and that performance is adequately documented. Provides feedback to associates regarding their work, skills, and development. Recommends or initiates personnel actions, such as hiring, promotions, transfers, discharges, disciplinary measures, etc. Trains associates to ensure optimum staff development and coverage plans are in place. Through cross-training, ensures that backup plans and resources are in place for contingency needs. Complies with all legal, regulatory, and corporate requirements for personnel actions. Selects vendors for department needs and monitors their results to assure high-quality service delivery.
- Administration: Manage the execution of routine group and departmental tasks. Administers RR&D program for the department. Provides operational reporting on metrics/measurements. Administers the execution of personnel-related tasks, e.g. timesheets, compensation, etc.
Required Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in a technical/engineering discipline
Alternative Education: Master's degree in business administration, or Engineering or Systems Management
Experience: Ten years of electric industry experience with a solid understanding of most of the operational and administrative functions within the electric energy industry. Intimate knowledge and experience with general energy settlement processes and supporting IT systems operations and development is HIGHLY desirable. An in-depth understanding of GSOC's pseudo scheduling environment and procedures is EXTREMELY desirable. A working knowledge of budgeting and accounting principles is required. Some exposure or experience with HR topics such as personnel management and benefits are desired.
Equivalent Experience: Exceptionally favorable experience may be considered in lieu of or equivalent to a portion of the educational requirements but must be in addition to the experience shown above if used to meet educational requirements.
