The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County provides opportunities for people to connect with nature. We offer to the public 60 forest preserves, 166 miles of trails, 47 miles of rivers and streams, and 6 nature and cultural centers. We have 6 million visitors each year.
The District's mission is, "to acquire and hold lands containing forests, prairies, wetlands and associated plant communities or lands capable of being restored to such natural conditions for the purpose of protecting and preserving the flora, fauna and scenic beauty for the education, pleasure and recreation of it's citizens."
Job Summary
This position plays a crucial role in collecting, tracking, maintaining, and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the financial records of the District.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare schedules and regular journal entries, including fixed assets, accruals, cash receipting, and other general accounting/finance analyses on a monthly and year-end basis.
- Reconcile bank accounts and balance sheet accounts.
- Assist Payroll in maintaining accurate employee records and support payroll transmission processes.
- Research and reconcile accounting and financial transactions.
- Prepare monthly sales tax returns.
- Process District and golf enterprise cash receipts, reconcile reports, and prepare bank deposits.
- Assist in processing contracts, purchase orders, and payment requisitions.
- Provide support during the annual audit process.
- Support annual and monthly budget processes.
- Foster a working environment that promotes safe work habits; Become familiar with and observe all applicable safety rules, policies, and work procedures; Follow all safety rules that pertain to the duties performed and support all aspects of the District's safety and risk management program; Keep work area clean, orderly, and free of hazards; Immediately report all unsafe conditions and incidents.
- Maintain a supportive working environment and demonstrate a desire to exceed the expectations of internal and external customers.
- Perform other duties as required.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a related field.
- 1-3 years of related experience or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Valid Driver's License in good standing.
- Experience with governmental accounting is preferred.
- Familiarity with dealing effectively with internal departments and outside vendors.
- Experience with MS Dynamics Great Plains or other Enterprise Resource Planning system.
- High attention to detail.
- Proficiency in using word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
- Assess and prioritize multiple tasks, projects, and demands efficiently.
- Effective in establishing and maintaining productive workplace relationships.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to maintain complete, accurate, and organized records.
Schedule: Full Time.
Salary: $65,582.00 - 76,024 per year.
