About the Job
The County of San Luis Obispo Probation Department is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Volunteer Chaplain
The purpose of this position is to provide a non-denominational ministry of presence that may include spiritual and emotional care, support, and counseling for San Luis Obispo County Probation staff regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, creed, or religion. Chaplaincy services are without cost or proselytizing.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Provide emotional support, encouragement, and spiritual guidance to Probation staff.
- Provide confidential spiritual counseling to probation staff as requested.
- Work with peer support team members.
- Respond to traumatic incidents to aid and support involved officers.
- Available to assist in the notification to next-of-kin in death or serious injury incidents.
- Visit sick or injured Probation staff in the hospital or at home.
- Be a resource to Probation staff and their families experiencing stressful situations.
- Support critical incident stress defusing and debriefing sessions for Probation staff.
- Serve as a liaison with other County law enforcement chaplains and the faith-based community.
- Participate in in-service training classes.
- Serve a minimum of 8 hours per month
