What You Will Do
The Volunteer Specialist is a member of the BCNC Human Resources team, which plays a pivotal role in collaborating and managing the organization's most valuable asset—its people. You will work across all levels to support recruitment, compensation and benefits, and employee experience. You will bring a DEIB-focused mindset, fostering a positive, inclusive, and productive work environment that attracts and retains top talent. You will report directly to the Human Resources Manager. This is a part-time role of 20-25 hours per week, with the potential for a full-time opportunity in the future.
In this role, you will:
- Collaborate with all departments to identify opportunities and the needs of volunteers.
- Assist each department with updating and posting volunteer opportunities.
- Source and recruit volunteers through different channels. Build, maintain, and track pipelines.
- Manage background checks, database, and onboarding.
- Assist with creating and tracking metrics and generating reports.
- Work closely with the Chief Program Officer and Development team for community outreach and engagement.
- Communicate regularly with each department-designated person and volunteers to ensure the placement fits both parties well.
- Assist with feedback surveys and continuously look for opportunities to improve and enhance the volunteer program.
- Organize a regular schedule of communications with volunteers through email and other channels to ensure volunteers remain connected and are aware of all opportunities to participate at BCNC.
- Coordinate volunteer recognition and appreciation events and activities.
- Maintain files, records, applications, and other data concerning the volunteer program.
- Perform other duties assigned by the Human Resources Manager, Chief Program Officer, and Chief Development Officer.
What We Look For
- Associate or Bachelor's degree with 3+ years of professional experience working with volunteers.
- Experience in community outreach and engagement, with the ability to work comfortably and directly with diverse communities and individuals.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, related software (ADP or Civicore), or volunteer management software.
- Exceptional relationship-building and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent communication (verbal and written) and presentation skills.
- Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail.
- Ability to manage and track multiple tasks and responsibilities.

Working Conditions
- Must be available to work a flexible schedule and may require local travel during the workday.
- Work is performed primarily in a standard work environment, including the operation of computer equipment, and physical demands associated with a traditional work setting, e.g., walking, standing, communicating, and other physical functions, as necessary.
