Summary
CyberUp invites qualified candidates to apply for the Cybersecurity LevelUp Training volunteer Teaching Assistant (TA) position. A TA is responsible for supporting the lead instructor by assisting with soft skills, IT/business acumen, and primarily CompTIA Sec+ 701 materials. The TA will help utilize the CompTIA Instructor curriculum and PowerPoint presentations. We are also looking for TAs interested in aiding the lead instructor by manning the class’s chatbox and helping answer questions. TAs are also responsible for providing support during teaching sessions, service, and related administrative activities. This position may also include advising and student mentoring.
Essential Job Functions
- Support the talents, interests, and future of the students by helping communicate learning goals and how those goals are assessed, assisting during course sessions, providing time for reflection, discussion, and application of ideas or information, and making learning engaging and interesting.
- Supporting the Lead Instructor by aiding in developing adaptive thinking and problem-solving skills by using examples to explain difficult points, encouraging students to question ideas or information in the subject, adjusting instruction if students experience difficulties in learning, helping students understand the language and processes of the subject, and supporting students as they think through and solve problems, either independently or as a group.
- Support the students through mentorship and optional office hours outside of class instruction.
- Contribute to establishing a positive, productive, and respectful classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
- Ensure students receive reasonable and timely assistance with questions in the class forum.
- Provide an unwavering example of professionalism.
Subject Matter Expertise
- Support the lead instructor in teaching CompTIA Security+ materials and real-life applications.
Required Qualifications
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.
- Interest in assisting or instructing courses is preferred.
- Related IT/Cybersecurity college courses or entry-level experience in the field.
- Must be actively engaged in the Cybersecurity field.
- Well-versed in CompTIA Security+ materials.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to think critically and solve problems independently.
- Ability to be organized and work on multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Comfortable with online conferencing services.
Work Environment
- General office and/or classroom conditions.
- Stamina to support the class as required.
- Ability to stand or sit for extended time periods.
- Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.
