Dewberry is currently seeking a Water/Wastewater Junior Construction Inspector for our Fairfax, VA office. The position will perform a variety of investigation, design and construction related work in support of small and large infrastructure projects. The Inspector will perform such tasks as construction inspection, collecting field data needed to progress pay applications, establishing quantity and cost estimates. Inspector must be flexible, client focused and capable of working independently under the supervision of project managers.

Responsibilities:- Monitor contractor operations for compliance with contract plans, provisions and specifications
- Proactive in identifying field issues and discuss solutions with supervisor
- Be familiar with and able to advise contractors of violations of safety procedures and recommend adjustments to bring these violations into compliance
- Executing field measurements of pay items; maintaining daily diaries, materials notebooks, redline as-built plans, understanding progress schedules, work orders, and monthly estimates.
- Oversee and document materials testing such as: soil compaction, concrete and asphalt field tests
- Ability to document all field activities, work in a collaborative manner with the owner and contractor
- Experience with traffic control and SWPPP implementation as it pertains to underground utilities within roadways a plus
- High school graduate or GED equivalent is required. Associates degree in Construction Management or related field is preferred, but not required.
- 1-4 years of experience in construction inspection. Water main and utility field inspection experience preferred.
- Applicant should be experienced with underground utilities, earthwork, asphalt and concrete.
- Works in a very timely fashion to meet project requirements.
- Communicates effectively with clients, coworkers, sub consultants, and agency review staff.
- Additional requirements include excellent communications skills, ability to read and interpret plans and specifications, and ability to perform complex quantity and engineering computations.
- Physically able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and terrains
- Ability to repetitively stoop, crawl, bend at the knees and waist, squat and lift 50 lbs; includes body weight, equipment, tools and boxes, in addition to ability to stand for long periods of time on varied surfaces
- Driving is a requirement of the position. A clean driving record is required.
