QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred:
Valid Washington teacher certification or recognized coaching accreditation
Highly recommended candidates have background/certification in Strength Training and Conditioning or willingness to become certified
Employment as a teacher/coach in school district
Required:
Has the ability to organize and supervise a weight room and lifting and conditioning program
Has previous successful High School or higher coaching experience in strength and conditioning
The coach must have substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the strength and conditioning for sport and at the same time must continue to examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the field
Holds current first aid/CPR card
BFS Weight Room Safety certification or similar certification
Must complete all WIAA, Eastmont School District and Eastmont High School required trainings as set forth in the SECA collective bargaining agreement
Reports To: The athletic director, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with the high school principal
Supervises: Grades 9-12 in the EHS weight room; Supports in-season lifting programs; Works with Head Coaches on out of season lifting programs.
Job Goal: To instruct and train athletes to realize a degree of individual and team success.
General:
The success of athletic programs has a strong influence on the community’s image of the entire system. The public exposure is a considerable responsibility and community/parent pressure for winning performance is taxing, but must not over-ride the objectives of good sportsmanship and good mental health.
The position includes other unusual aspects such as extended time, risk injury factor and due process predicaments
It is the express intent of this job description to give sufficient guidance to function. In cases not specifically covered, it shall be assumed that a coach shall exercise common sense and good judgment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Has a thorough knowledge of all athletic policies approved by the Eastmont Board of Education and is responsible for their implementation by the entire staff of the sports program
Understands the proper administrative line of command
Staff Responsibilities:
Establishes the fundamental training skills and techniques to be taught to student-athletes.
Trains and informs student-athletes, keeps records of lifting and conditioning progress.
Adheres to Athletic Department Core Covenants.
Perform such other duties that may be assigned by the athletic administrator/principal
Administrative Duties:
Equipment inventory/ordering/management\repair and cleaning as needed in weight room
Have accurate student use records of weight room and conditioning sessions
Monitor athlete attendance and behavior
Complete all building/district trainings
Training and Preparation:
Provides proper training instruction of lifting and conditioning techniques
Completes reports of all disabling athletic injuries on proper forms and submits to athletic office within 24 hours.
Sequential conditioning
Appropriate positive motivation
Appropriate attention to maturity, readiness and pairing of athletes
Sports Medicine:
Ability to use approved first-aid and CPR skills
Ensure athlete is cleared by physician and ATC in order to return to training
Develop and implement a site-specific emergency response plan
Finance and Equipment:
Responsible for cleanliness and maintenance of specific weight room equipment.
Permits athletes to be in authorized areas at the appropriate times
Examines weight room before and after use. Checks on general cleanliness of the facility. Secures all doors, lights, windows and locks before leaving building.
Instills in each player a respect for equipment and school property, its care and proper use
