Position Overview:
The Prevention Wellness Specialist is a dual-role position combining the responsibilities of a Prevention Specialist-Case Manager and a Behavioral Health Respite Specialist. This role focuses on providing education, support, and temporary relief to at-risk children, teens, and their families. You'll work collaboratively with individuals, families, and community organizations to plan and implement prevention programs and provide short-term behavioral health support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prevention Specialist-Case Manager Duties:
- Education & Prevention: Plan, implement, and facilitate prevention programs focusing on life skills, substance abuse, and mental health using evidence-based curricula.
- Community Collaboration: Develop relationships with referral sources, schools, and community organizations to provide information and raise awareness.
- Program Delivery: Teach alternative lifestyle choices and deliver prevention programming to targeted demographics.
- Outcome Evaluation: Collect and submit outcome instruments and evaluation data to measure program effectiveness.
- Wellness Specialist Duties:
- Behavioral Health Support: Provide short-term, temporary community-based relief to primary caregivers, supporting problem-solving skills and implementing behavioral health treatment plans.
- Daily Living Assistance: Offer support with activities of daily living, transportation, and other community-based activities.
- Skills Development: Help individuals develop self-regulation, socialization, and problem-solving skills to maximize their participation in community activities.
- Recreation & Leisure: Provide therapeutic recreation and leisure activities as outlined in person-centered service plans.
Qualifications:
- Credentialed as a Prevention Specialist through the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board.
- Minimum 6 months of experience working with at-risk children, teens, and families.
- Must be at least 21 years old, with at least one year of experience working with children and adolescents with emotional/behavioral challenges preferred.
- Experience working with diverse family situations and groups.
- Strong communication skills, organizational abilities, and the ability to work well with different types of people.
- Valid driver's license, good driving record, and automotive liability insurance required.
- Must meet background screening requirements as defined by OAC code 5101:2-5-09.
- Demonstrates cultural humility and understanding of the diversity of children and families served.
Specialized Training:
All new hires will complete a comprehensive orientation program within the first 90 days, including CAFAS Training, CANS Certification, HIPAA, Zero Suicide Initiative, Columbia Training, Pediatric First Aid, CPR, De-escalation Training, TBRI, and more.
