SWCA Environmental Consultants is looking for an experienced Wetland Delineator - Staff Biologist (HR Title = Staff Biologist) to join our Arlington, TX office. This office offers a unique work environment and specializes in Oil & Gas, Transmission, Generation and Renewable Energy. This is a full time, hourly position in the Dallas–Fort Worth area, with ability to work a hybrid schedule. We will consider remote opportunities for applicants that live in other parts of Texas or adjacent states.

What you will accomplish:
- Assist with conducting a variety of natural resources field studies including threatened/endangered species assessments, wetland delineations, and avian/wildlife surveys
- Conduct fieldwork, organize and transfer field data, and write technical reports and permit applications related to Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, National Environmental Policy Act, and other resource planning/permitting, and/or natural resource disciplines
- Assist in the writing and development of written deliverable related to project work
- Use topographic maps, aerial photographs, GPS units, and other maps and tools during fieldwork
- Safely operate SWCA-owned and rental vehicles, including 4-wheel drive vehicles
- Complete individual tasks of medium complexity or duration with oversight
- Mobilize field crews and equipment
- Coordinate land access, field crew progress, and data transfer and management
- Execute data collection in the field through self and others
- Perform a broad range of tasks related to a variety of wildlife, plant, upland, and aquatic resources
- Complete field data QA/QC
- Conduct research
- Perform basic data synthesis and analysis
- Write deliverable sections under direction
- Apply broad knowledge of regulations or guidelines to job
- Communicate with client or agency as directed by PM
- Oversee the implementation of the safety plan in the field
As s Staff Biologist Scientist, part of your job responsibilities will include supervisising a small crew while conducting environmental fieldwork. This includes:
- Independently assigning and directing the activities of others on behalf of SWCA, often in remote areas without immediate guidance from senior managers, to ensure quality and on-time delivery.
- Ensuring that employees understand their responsibilities and delegated tasks and being held accountable if crew members under your supervision are not performing their activities correctly, productively, and safely.
- Serving as a conduit of communication between employees and senior managers, including communicating issues to relevant senior managers.
- Receiving and resolving complaints from employees in the field.
- Monitoring team productivity and offering timely performance guidance, including determining when correction action is needed and delivering appropriate feedback.
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Botany, Environmental Science, Fish and Wildlife Science, Ecology, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience conducting wetland delineation fieldwork and wildlife/environmental fieldwork. Applicants with no wetland experience will not be considered
- Previous experience with linear surveys
- Completion of 38-hour wetland delineation training course or demonstrated equivalent
Preferred:
- Knowledge and environmental survey experience in Texas ecology
- Familiarity with mapping software such as ArcGIS and GPS devices
Additional Information:
- Ability to travel to a location, walk and conduct fieldwork for long hours, sometimes in inclement weather and rugged terrain
- Ability to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds
- Frequent travel will be required for the position, with field work sometimes reaching 80% of your time

A Staff Biologist in this Arlington, TX based position can expect an hourly rate of $23.00 - $30.00/hr. Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law.
