About the Job
Goldberg Segalla, a dynamic and collaborative law firm with a national presence, seeks a highly motivated and organized individual to join its team as a Worker’s Compensation Legal Assistant in its Garden City office. The Worker’s Compensation Legal Assistant will provide administrative and secretarial support to assigned attorneys and provide backup to other attorneys as requested. Also assist with administrative tasks as it relates to the specific office and attorneys.
This position is eligible to be on a hybrid work schedule after on-site training is completed.
Job Description:
- The ability to type approximately 65 – 75 words per minute.
- Familiarity with electronic filing in Federal and State Court.
- Types general correspondence, memorandum and complex legal documents according to the requirements set by each practice group.
- Transcribes dictation tapes (letters, memos of law, motions and briefs).
- Proofreads documents and checks for appropriate formatting, spelling and grammar.
- Prepares check requests for processing with appropriate backup and timely submission to accounting for payment.
- Types and coordinates expense reports.
- Enters and edits the attorney’s time into the timekeeping system within deadlines as required.
- Maintains attorney(s’) appointment calendar.
- Maintains files in an efficient and effective manner.
- Prepares and updates attorney case lists.
- Prepare materials for distribution via U.S. mail, fax, courier, messenger, etc.
- Maintains confidentiality of client information in accordance with the firm policies.
- Interacts professionally with clients, attorneys, paralegals, secretaries, all other staff and other representatives outside of the firm.
- Ability to handle pressure, interruptions and multiple projects with frequently changing priorities and deadlines.
Requirements/Skills:
- Ideal candidate should be motivated with the goal of becoming a long term asset within the organization.
- 1-5 years of Workers' Compensation experience. Entry level candidates may be considered.
- Experience with E-file, calendaring and docketing deadlines.
- Billing experience.
- Exceptional organization skills.
- Positive attitude.
- Excellent typing skills.
- Ability to multitask.
- Teamwork oriented.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and challenging environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs.
Benefits:
This role offers an hourly salary and bonus opportunity. The salary range for this position is $21.00-$31.00 per hour. Actual pay may be adjusted based on experience and other job related factors permitted by law. This position also offers a full benefits package.
